It's not just the positioning it's when he does step out the width of the penalty area he doesn't do the fundamentals right

If a centrehalf goes out to that area he has to win the ball or clear it or take the man. You can't jockey a player out there. He constantly jockeys was it Palace were they turned him inside out??

Lovren has been at his very best average. Shocking at other times.
Sakho, whilst capable of a clanger is a top defender, but he's always injured and a such you can't build a defence around him.
Skrtel on the other hand, is probably only still first choice because we haven't yet managed to sign a player to replace Agger / Carra.

Frustrating part here is that we spent over £42m trying to improve our CB choices over just last couple of years and we are not in much better position now then we were then.

I don't think it is - clearly there are times when the organization and tactics have been at least as big a problem in our defense as the personnel. No one defender can make a team solid on their own.

Its not crazy at all. We're horrific at the back and its nothing to do with the defenders. They've all been part of solid defences at some stage of their career. Lovren looked immense at Southampton, Sakho dominates for the French side, Skrtl was very solid in Rafa's side, Agger too and Kolo was a key part of multiple title winning sides

They all look absolutely clueless at times for us though.

There is no protection and the fullbacks in Rodgers "system" get forward...but struggle getting back. It leaves the CB's exposed and the result is the shedfull of goals we concede each year under Rodgers.

Hopefully the changes in backroom staff mean this glaring problem is fixed.

Thought Lovren looked nothing but average at Southampton, poor during last year's World Cup and awful at Liverpool. He often looks lost, dives in to tackles and gives very little confidence to his teammates.

There is no protection and the fullbacks in Rodgers "system" get forward...but struggle getting back. It leaves the CB's exposed and the result is the shedfull of goals we concede each year under Rodgers.

Lovren never looked immense for Southampton & has been just as bad at international level as he has been for LFC. But yeah I do agree that the defensive setup has been pretty poor, really hoping we can sort that **** out this season.

Ok girls. The new season starts tomorrow. We play Sunday. New slate for all players. Including Lovren, he wasnt solely responsible for our poor performance last season.
