The defence is working as we've found a system that works which seems to be in large part down to the fullbacks.

Yesterday was his best game, although I was twitching when they injected a bit of pace down the flanks but they didnt isolate him

Hes much improved but for me Sakho is still a better defender and I would be still picking him ahead of Lovren as I think the addition of Gomez would drastically improve how Sakho looks as much as it has Lovren

He's doing well clearly helped by having a defensively sound (and super fast) Gomez. The whole defensive unit seems more compact which means he's getting drawn out less - we all know he's at his weakest when dealing with a one-on-one situation. Didn't happen once last night IIRC.

To be fair, with the benefit of doubt, even Clyne could have been judged to have played him on as well.
It involved Clyne's one error for me, which was actually more of an annoyance than Skrtel and Clyne's position because even before the ball is played, you could see him take a look at the player, but he lost him immediately as the ball was played through.

We just got away with it....same as last week.

Clyne simply lost Ramsey and Ramsey got in behind.

I think the team setup is probably responsible for his up turn in form, the two solid full backs offering protection down the sides and a couple of hardworking midfielders in front of him is much similar to the system he played in at Southampton, where he showed much better form than he did here last year.

I thought everyone of the backline were really bad today but Lovren made a show of himself. This was inevitable. I don't think i've ever seen a CB that is so gung ho. Charges around the place leaving his own position exposed and a big hole for opposition to exploit. If Sakho does not start ahead of him vs United... I really don't know what to think.
