Yeah I appreciate the improvement but much like Skrtel, he has that bit of madness about him. Lovren does have a horrible habit of charging out like a mad man and over committing.

I agree,we probably do need 2 CB's & a LB. Matip as a DM make sense to me but it's great he's versatile & will most likely take one of the CB spots. Such a pity Gomez got injured as he looked excellent. I just wish we would nail down the defensive spots once and for all.

What I especially like about Lovern and Sakho as a CB partnership is that one tends to raise his game when the other is having a mare.


The same does not seem to happen when either are put in a CB pairing with Skrtel. When with Skrtel and one has a bad patch, then Skrtel rarely raises his game enough to look after the other guy and often Skrtel comes down to the level of the other guy when the other guy is having a mare.


Plus when Skrtel has a mare he seems to be able to knock the **** out of the right back's game along with that of his CB partner to the degree that nobody recovers.

It's a general view and not just on yesterday's game. He has improved under Klopp no doubts but I can't see how anyone would consider him a great CB? I welcome the improvement, I mean thank **** and credit where it is due but not getting carried a way just yet.

Personally I think we need 3 new defenders, 2 CB's (Matip bought) & LB.

Matip is better than Skrtel and Lovren. He is going to replace one of our current central defenders and is being brought in as first choice

I think we've seen with Leicester and Wesley Morgan and Bob Huth, it doesn't really matter if your CBs aren't Baresi and Maldini. If they're half decent - can head it, can organise and can stay organised - and your CBs click as a pair, you've got half a chance. Matip might turn up and forge a great partnership with whoever is going to be his regular partner. If he does, sound.

The Centre Back area of the squad is such as mess I'd be amazed if Matip is our main signing here.

I think he's coming in as an improvement to the squad rather than as an automatic first team player. Which isn't to say he won't ever establish himself as a first choice.

Realistically, we could get rid of practically all of our CB's in the summer- don't think Sakho will go but the rest are either likely to or its a possibility. Meaning we could be in for a few more defenders coming in. Matip was done early due to his contract situation, not because he is the prime target.

I think Matip and a left back (Hector) will be the main signings for defence, and they'll partner Clyne and Lovren.

With Lovren under Klopp, he keeps things very simple, and is aggressive in the air. From what I've heard about Matip and Hector, they are calm and good on the ball. This is what the defence needs. When Sakho is on form, he is an absolute monster (Mancs at Old Trafford). However, I feel Lovren is consistent in what he offers under Klopp, and is very good at covering, which is useful if Matip decides to go on a run up the pitch.

Yeah as much as I like Sakho and think he's the better centre back, he's far too erratic for Klopp imo. We just need 4 lads like Clyne. Nothing spectacular but reliable and solid the vast majority of the time. I think Lovren fits that bill way more than Sakho. I think Sakho will be off cos he won't want to be second fiddle.
