The UEFA Cup was still prestigious back then.

I'd love to win the Europa Cup. Winning in Europe is special and great prestige and experience for the team & squad. Added to the fact the CL spot goes to the winners, it's my preferred mode of success this season.

I'd say the FA Cup is special for the fans, whilst CL qualification in the league is all about the money men.

That 2001 Uefa Cup run was epic. Knocking out Roma was amazing and they won Serie A that year.

This banner we had in Rome still makes me laugh!

              That was an epic season.

What was the story behind the Frank Bruno thing? I can't remember that at all.

                I reckon we'll get 3rd:

Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea are the only games I'm not confident that we'll win - all others could potentially be 3 pointers the way we are playing.

Which of these players from 2001 would you take now.

Im saying, Didi for DM, Sammi and Carra clearly for CB, Owen as backup/rotation for Sturridge, Babbel for RWB

We already have Gerrard, but i'd swap him for that little young fella in a second.

Gary Mac patrolling the middle of the park v Besiktas wouldn't be too bad either. I'd take every one of them tbh as either rotation or starters.

I wouldn't expect us to hit the heights of last year in terms of such a long winning run. That rarely happens in football and with our fixture list its next to impossible. Rodgers hasn't proven he can rotate a squad yet so pressures on him to get that right if he wants to be at this club long term.

I fancy we'll have games where we will struggle to recreate the zip and fluency that is our philosophy and when that happens I hope we can continue to dig some results out. In order for us to finish on a high the goals return from a few players needs to rise and we need solid contributions from Lallana and Marko who have been up and down in addition to the others. A good end to the season from Sturridge and some more goals from likes of Rikie & Mario is also vital. Those two will get game time and tbh they need to be contributing.

It's a difficult one as that team played in a very different way, I mean using the current system you could make up a great back three of Carragher, Hyypia and Henchoz which on paper looks great but probably lacks a little pace if we're honest. Yeah I would take Didi back as we lack a DM, and having a young Gerrard would be amazing, similarly that year we had Owen, Fowler and Heskey who all got about 20 goals each, and we lack the goalscoring threat at the moment. But all this stuff looks fairly good in hindsight, in reality Carragher was on the fringes of that side (he played LB IIRC), Henchoz only had another season or two at a decent level would you swap a young player with potential for one who had a year or two of his peak left? In truth we knew Gerrard was a good player then but it's only with hindsight that we know how good...

Looking at the team as a whole I think that team and this current team are fairly evenly matched and would find it difficult fitting into the others style of play, so while there are quite a few players who I would like to have back if I didn't know what they would go on to do or didn't associate them with a period of success I'm no sure how many I would take.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If you take them there at that age and stage of career then Didi, Hypia, Carra and Stevie walk into the side.
