just not good enough tonight lads. Comedy pinball defending for the goal and then very little after. Need to really step it up. Lambert was meant to be the plan B for these type of games, but hasn't clicked. Lazar looked decent, Lallana fine, Mario is nowhere near fit. Tuesday needs to be better to get the confidence back. Hodgson should be tarred and feathered

We couldn't break them down, we move on and that's that. .
Didn't think we were anywhere near as bad as the match thread makes out, but that's standard overreaction whilst watching the game I guess
Disappointing that with the attacking players we fielded we weren't able to make all that possession count, even a little; but credit to Villa for their defending and their discipline in not allowing more than one of their players near the centre circle whilst we had possessionI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

We've bought pretty well in defense, we've spent poorly elsewhere. Lallana is the only one who might be quality, but he cost an arm and a leg.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

It was pityfull. We made senderos, hutton and sissohko look world class.....Originally posted by baitman View Postyet when we get 40% possession we can win 3 or 4-0.
too much passing around at the back.
patient build up meh. they were never going to come out and get it, just a couple of their lads pressing us, as soon as we cross the half way they press, so we pass back and go again...

I think it's a little too early to judge Markovic to be honest, might be a good time to have a look at the Sterling quotes from that Hull thread that people were mentioning earlier.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostThey were better than us before they scored though.
Markovic isn't good enough, and neither is Balotelli. Coutinho is still in an inconsistent phase and Lallana should have been sat behind a front two, although he did his best. And we bring on substandard subs and hope Sterling can change the game. Desperate stuff really. We can and will play a lot better than that, but we have too little up front to challenge for the title imo.
It's early days for Balotelli too, he hasn't played much at all. And he's not a lone forward, and probably never will be. He was decent against Spurs last week and would benefit from a partner. The times they are a changin'.

I think it was a bit naive from Rodgers to rest Sterling when Sturridge is out. Sure, the lad needs resting at some point, but I think with Sturridge out, perhaps this wasn't the time. This is not a slating of Rodgers btw - I love him and am glad he is our manager. When Sterling came on we showed more of a cutting edge and Coutinho got more of the ball in decent(ish) positions.
All in all, we were a bit pedestrian and seemed lacking with ideas, which is strange of a Rodgers team. Part of the problem was Mario's propensity to drift out wide, which lacked a focal point/ cutting edge in the centre. But I guess all that will come with time.
Villa defended well, but that gormless cunt Senderos should have been sent off, which would have made for a very different game. I suppose the consolation is that we are better off points-wise to the corresponding games last season.

Lambert clearly knows what he is doing when coming to Anfield. It's not a coincidence he's unbeaten in 4 visits with Norwich and Villa. Suarez couldn't beat him at Anfield either.
