I'm struggling to understand why Lambert was signed when it appears we have no idea how to use him.

He played very well in a saints team known for its high intensity pressing. It that respect that should suit us well. I don't remember him being asked to play upfront on his own much at Southampton. He played with a very mobile Rodriguez and had lallana floating around. He was very capable in this set up.

All I hear on here is he's so slow, target man, crap signing etc There's no doubt the weight of expectation is weighing heavy on his shoulders and he's running slower because of it. It is similar to the crouch situation in that he needs to get a goal and quick. He's a much better player than we have seen so far. But 5 minute cameos are not going to build his confidence. Big chance today. Hopefully he can score a free kick and break his duck.

lambert seemed to be more of a hold up man playing from midfield. he would often play one twos with midfielders. if the ball went wide to wingers he would arrive late in the box ready for the cross [not always a high ball] or if midfielders ran on past him he would follow into the box and often get on the second ball.

we can only play the faster counter attack when teams come out and play, but if they sit deeper we then need to have more bodies who can interplay. this might be were lambert can slot in. sticking him up front isnt really the answer. he might be better as a AM who then arrives late. like a spanish striker when they play without a recognised striker, no.
