At home I'd want two up top, but as we're away I'd rather we started with just one. It's the mistake we made against West Ham. Should have started more solid.
I'd look at 4231/433. Coutinho at the tip with Raheem & Borini wide and Mario up top. Gerrard and one other in the middle. Raheem & Fabio offer movement and can also stick to their defensive duty when needed. Moreno and Manquillo at full back. Glen has been out injured and is slowly coming back. He played midweek so I'd rest him for this and play him away to Real.
We've looked solid lately and I wouldn't want to move too far away from that. I think it's vital we keep clean sheets atm as we haven't looked very fluent up top. I think we will beat Newcastle but we don't need to commit ourselves and go all guns blazing. We're the away side and the Newcastle fans won't set for them playing deep with two banks of 4/5 so let's keep it tight and make the fans get restless like opposing sides do at Anfield.Forwards.......

Agree with this.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostYup two up top for me and it would be Borini for his work rate and Balotelli.
Worryingly we looked better at the back last night in terms of organisation with Jones in goal now whilst he's not as good a keeper as Mignolet he did seem to marshal the back 4 pretty well I'd also say having Kolo in there helped things as it was less frantic with both Lovren and Skrtel doing their thing!
I think it's a given Gerrard will start unless he has a knock so I'd go with something like this.
.....................................Mignolet..... .......................................
..Manquillo..............Toure.............Lovren. ..............Moreno..........
....................................Gerrard....... .....................................
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Henderson...................Coutin ho...............................
.................................Sterling......... .......................................
.......................Mario...............Borini. ....................................
Allow Sterling, Coutinho and Borini freedom to move around and try and keep Balotelli up top.

i really get what you are saying but i think because Newcastle will play with an attacking mentality at home is one of the main reasons that we should play the diamond (the other being that it seems to be our best formation). Because Newcastle will play an attacking line-up, we should set up to really hurt them on the counter attack - just as we did away to Spurs earlier in the season. If we can have Sterling, Coutinho, Borini, Henderson and Balotelli all breaking at pace, then we should see some joy.
I think the tactics you detail are spot on for away to Man City, Arsenal or Chelsea - where we would be very happy with a point - but not against Newcastle. We need to force the game - especially in the first half.

This is just the type of game we need. They've hit some form and will be playing in front of a crowd that will (unusually) be fully behind them. We'll have to play decently to get a result and it could be just the springboard that we need to push on and actually achieve something this season.

Borini and Stirling can interchange depending on how much we need to press in the center of the parkAkloppalypse Now !

This has been a big problem for me all season and imo the change in system has been as much to blame for our poor form as any other the other numerous problems we haveBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."
