It has got a spine.....but it might be the slowest and most immobile spine in the history of football

    From front to back:

    Lucas
    Kolo Toure

They should be given a kick up the arse on the way out of the changing rooms and told to prove to the watching public just how good they can be...

If they need that type of protecting they should never ever wear that shirt again.

Looks like the building blocks of a decent wall to be fair. Or components of a bus, take your pick.

...feels like we've reverted to a really weak (fragile) mental state again, when last season the confidence was there - even in tough games. Don't buy this 'Suarez was everything' line - they all had to step it up and perform to keep up with him last year... we've just lost that catalyst. They need to each dig deep and find it - not be told 'we'll save you the embarrassment tonight'

Fans have called for Balotelli, Gerrard and Lovren to be dropped ... well there you go.

In what way? as in, lets be serious, there is no way under the sun we can stop this Madrid team scoring, that's with our 'best team' it just can't happen, our defence is one of the worst in the league. So better to rest some of our under performing 'stars' and when we get our arse kicked, the excuse we can give is it isn't our first choice team. Imagine if we went full strength (do we even have a full strength team these days) and we put loads of effort in chasing shadows and then they score and the flood gates open and we find ourselves on the end of a 7,8 or 9 score. We would be ****ed. The way the champions league is going, that is what happens these days, teams get picked off and smashed to pieces. 10 years ago it didn't happen but since the game is virtually non contact and you can't even go there with an aggressive attitude to **** them up and hit a few early doors, the best players just pass it round you at ease and there is nothing a weaker team can do to prevent it. Like the home game it falls on the mercy of the killer to go easy on you. Its why this competition is a bit of a joke and is so uncompetitive until the knock outs stages. The gulf is massive between the teams.

I still have hope we can perform out of our skins and nick it, but in reality I don't see where a big performance is going to come from, our players are too mentally weak, they crumble at the first sign of pressure, that's from keeper all the way throughout the team. Its ****ing depressing. I honestly thought an on fire sterling and sturridge would really cause Madrid problems. Sterling has gone back to the kid from 18 months ago. Its no surprise he's over played and its a lot to expect him to pull it out of the fire on his own. In the home game I don't think we even took a yellow card despite having our pants pulled down on our own patch. No fight whatsoever. That's todays game of football for you.

rodgers to rest half the team against real madrid? i remember rafael benitez getting slaughtered for resting fernando torres against wigan.

when benitez did it the idea was to ensure torres would be fit to play the biggest games.

I hear you, but I disagree mate, these guys should need zero motivation for this type of game and there should be tears at missing out on such an occasion. I hate the fact that we have got ourselves in this situation but the only way out is to go back to basics and play your best team against arguably the best team on earth. No shame if we lose, but there is going to be a lot of shame in allowing this team to lose before a ball has even been kicked.

This could go down as the biggest miracle/embarrassment in the history of LFC.

A win with a side even slightly resembling the above would be more miraculous that Istanbul.

                          This should be fun.

No he's not. Rafa got slaughtered as that was a must win game. Tonight is not. If we beat Ludo & Basel by a decent score then we're through.

And let's be honest, most people agree we could put our best team out and get beat easily. So what's the difference. The only issue for me is all the fans going to Madrid to see their team roll over and wait to get whipped. Hard to stomach.

Like seriously, after nearly 5 odd years without CL football, and we get drawn against the absolute giants that are Real Madrid, only for Rodger's to play a reserve team against them. Absolutely ridiculous. I could maybe understand dropping Gerrard, but not the rest of them.
