Hes the most neutral player I have ever seen he cant affect the play at the top end of the pitch

In all fairness he probably helped create out best chance with a run into the box, But I do agree. I wouldn't expect a great deal in that regard from him. I think the idea was to control the game and he showed last season he can help in that regards. But all in, it wasn't really needed as Chelsea just dropped soon after and that was always going to be the case. Quick feet of Lallana would have been better, push him up and drop Coutinho deeper. That's what I'd have done and why I said I didn't agree. But I do see why he did it.

Sure, we bought badly and now have a first team where most of the players aren't good enough. But, it looks like Brendan has no ideas for how to get the best out of what he's got. He's just hoping doing the same thing over and over will produce different results. He's failing the test pretty badly.

Individually he got beat a couple of times too easy out wide. Collectively he and the team were found wanting for their goals. Sometimes it's what you didn't do as opposed to what you did. But of course, we could point the finger at more than just him. He's made the scape goat, but for me he wasn't the reason we lost either.

Yeah it's big problem at the moment. I think he's afraid to play the diamond because if Gerrard is the anchor/DM he will be exposed for his defensive frailties. If we had a specialist DM i think Rodgers would be much more content to play the diamond.. but sure he has to accommodate Stevie.

So players dropping deep to cover the spaces & seems everyone else gets pulled back & isolates out already stagnant striker. It's just all wrong at the moment.

It's not just about accommodating Gerrard. It's about playing a system you have the players for. I don't think we have the players to play one striker, never mind two, though of course that would help Mario.

We have played the diamond formation and been destroyed because the strikers don't cause the opposition to drop deep. We starte with it v West Ham and were destroyed.

The only time I've seen it improve us is when the opposition have settled for what they have and dropped deep. We go from one striker to two and of course we look a bit more dangerous as we have another in the box.

But look at it this way. All those games the strikers have played. How many goals between them? 2? Maybe 3? Why should we play two up top? We tried Raheem as a striker in one game. He's not a striker and he showed it. He's better running from deep.

I think him & Skrtel for the most part dealt well with the threat of Costa and hazard quite well. You're never going to totally dominate a player like those one on one, but overall I think the defence did okay in most situations. But if you keep allowing them to be put under pressure, and we are posing no threat going the other way, eventually the better team will punish an error.

That's football. I'm not saying our defence is the Milan of the 90's. But its not a total shambles. They need the pressure taking of them. It's too intense atm.
