    Morientes: I didn't feel worthy

Valencia striker Fernando Morientes has revealed the pressure new players are under at Liverpool.

Morientes, 30, insists being reminded about Liverpool's illustrious past made him feel he had let the club down by not firing them to the league title.

The same could be said now about Rafa Benitez's entire squad as a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal has left them languishing 14 points behind leaders Manchester United.

Morientes said: "There were times when I felt like I should have been paying them to play.

"I really hope things pick up for them. The players want to repay the fans for their support.

"I had a good first year but the second was worse and the last three months were terrible.

"Liverpool has a special mystique. It's one of the greatest clubs in Europe and they should be title challengers every year."
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Shame it didnt work out for him, I really liked him and he did still give us some great moments but English football and Fernando Morientes just didnt suit.

Could never fault his effort either.

Always have respect for players after they leave even though it wasnt a great time for them still have fond things to say about the club.

Each year we go without winning the league the pressure will build up

Nice thing to say. Just puts into perspective though how other world class players view Liverpool, even after playing for the mighty Madrid.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

          * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

Well I was talking about a player who had played for us, in that respect. not from the point of view of a player who hasnt played for us.
Besides that anyways, figo joined Inter for Financial reasons and the climate IMHO. players pay much more tax in england.

True point Bazza, i was just asking if you taught if they got a chance to play for Liverpool taking away money and climate would they play for such a great club in world football standing?

Yeah, I would have thought so, Rafa is held in high regard in spain, and with him as manager, money, climate and demanding girlfriend aside, I think Figo would have joined us.

only way it would happen I imagine is if there was a big falling out, or if they just decided to get shot, but then you would thing that's because he's past it by that point.

Yeah, absolutely...getting henry while he's still anything like as good as he is now, is clearly a pipedream.

Were we EVER in a position to sign him before Arsenal?

Surprised GH never persued that avenue.
