He's a good player going forward but a liability in defence.

Having him and Sterling in the same side is a bit of a luxury at the moment when the team needs to be able to grind our results.

Its not just Coutinho you could say the same about Sterling, Allen and even Gerrard

As always I'll defer to those with greater technical knowledge of tactics, formation etc but simply for me:

        1. We're not going to stop conceding goals.
        2. We're not going to score very many goals.
        3. Rafa has been our only manager to get the best out of Gerrard. Gerrard no longer has a "best" that merits an automatic starting place in any position, yet he's bombproof and seems central to Rodgers plans despite offering nothing either in attack or in a defined defensive role.

I cannot see where an improvement is going to come from.

Unfortunately, Rodgers is being found out this season.

He is weak, easily bullied, doesnt win enough possession, plays constant sideways and backwards passes that put you under pressure

Oh and as for Downing I detested him from even before we went for him becausehe was mentally weak and a chicken
Allen was good today and seeing as this is the post match thread I don't see what you're trying to achieve tbh by criticising a player who performed well, why not post your ****e in the Joe Allen thread ?

Why have a go at Allen today (in the post match thread)? He was one of our better players. Lec - you are basing your judgement on preconceived ideas.

                  Pathetic display.

We're an absolute mess, making the same mistakes 12 games into a season is bordering on unforgivable now.

First and foremost you have to compete, press the ball and compete for 2nd balls

We havent done that nearly enough this season

If your Henderson for example and you have Suarez and Sturridge scoring for fun ahead of you how much easier does you job become? I also imagine it helps a great deal in lifting your game. When the going gets tough though..

No I am basing it on what I saw today

He was bullied by physically stronger players like most of the team

Still he had a much better game than Gerrard who offers nothing at all. No defensive cover and is excused time and again as a deep playmaker who doesn't make anything happen.

We're too lightweight in midfield. I know he's bulked up a bit, but Sterling and Coutinho are too easily bullied. Lallana, as skillful as he is, in little help physically. Can should start along with Henderson and one of Sterliung, Coutinho and Lallana. IMHO.

Our midfield wasn't great last season and our defence has been made worse with the addition of Lovren. Suarez and Sturridge were the top two scorers in the league, that's why we finnished second.

I think they are both equally as bad

Both offer nothing at either end of the pitch
