Stoke actually play some decent football now. They would probably be better off going back to long balls for this one though

I think his team is pretty easy to predict tbh, he's spoke a lot about picking players he can rely on to work hard and do the basics for him.
He talked up Lucas and Allen in the holding role and also both full backs.

        I think he'll pick

        Mingolet
        Manquillo Skrtel Lovren Johnson
        Allen Lucas
        Hendo Gerrard Lallana
        Lambert.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

          Would like to see:

          Mignolet
          Manquillo Skrtel Toure Moreno
          Henderson Can Lucas Lallana
          Borini Lambert

If Sterling is fine, than swap him for Lallana. Would prefer too see Lucas a bit deeper and Can more of a box to box, Lallana can tuck in with Moreno providing width. If things go well I'd like to see Markovic given some minutes. If Balo is back, stick him on the bench.

Kolo and Toure should be given a chance.

Interesting. I think we will go 1-0 up and hang on for dear life before they score from a scrappy corner.

That team would annoy me after all Brendan's talk about picking players based on form. Six from that eleven have been patchy at best this season and outright awful at worst.

Mignolet I can get over being in the team because even when on poor form he is better than Jones. There is a very good reason why Jones has only played 141 or so club games in his entire career as a pro footballer (and he is now in his 14 season as a pro keeper) and that reason is simply that he is not very good. Even when he played at league one and Championship level he was unable to look a cut above players in those leagues. But come January I would be more nervous than usual if I were Mignolet.

Johnson should not be near the first XI. He has been muck all season and looks like he could not give a toss. Would younger player get used to the league by actually playing him. Yes he will make mistakes but he will also bust a gut when playing and does more good than bad anytime I have seen him play for us.

Skrtel and Lovern have both been crap a lot this season. Toure would start over either of them for me. If Sakho is ready then he would start over the other.

Henderson and Gerrard have not offered much this season either. Would have Can and Lucas in place of them, and Allen I would drop from one of Sterling or Coutinho, the former would get my nod.

Would also go with two up front. Lambert has two goals from two starts so he has earned another start, and I would put Borini up front with him.

So my team for Stoke would be

              ..........................Mignolet
              Manquillo.......Toure..........Sakho.........Moren o
              .............................Lucas...
              .............Can........................Lallana
              ............................Sterling
              ....................Borini..........Lambert

Of course I do not expect to see that team, and I fully expect Brendan to start four or five of the players who have not been performing well this season.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Forgot about Sakho, if he's ready he's in! Mind you I think Birdman only posted what he expected, not wanted, and I agree with him there.

Oh I know BM only posted what he thought Rodgers would go with. That's why I said I would be annoyed with the team if Rodgers put it out after all his talk about picking players in form and genuine competition for places.

Was not having a go at BM in the slightest.

This is when we need the famous '12th man' most. If the crowd could stir themselves into the same sort of frenzy we witnessed at the end of the season and make it a cauldron like atmosphere it might, just might inspire the players to go on and win.

£20 says its really really quiet and full of groans when another move breaks down or a player fails to retain the ball. The tension and pressure racked up further on the players.

Anyone expecting a good performance is naïve, its all about grinding out a positive result no matter what. I don't expect any single player with a rating above 7. Confidence is rock bottom. Yet regardless of score, the same people will be slating of the same individuals.

Even if the 12th man was Messi it wouldnt make a difference

The other 11 are generally ****

Helpful. Our players are good players. They need encouragement and support regardless of how poorly they are playing.
