God forbid it happen, but Balotelli could still play for us for the next decade or if he somehow improves stays for 2-4 seasons and we sell him for a reasonable price, it could very well turn out a lower price per season if you work it out that way, but obviously Balotelli's wages are much higher... In performance terms we simply are not going to turn back into a flowing, exciting side over night. Right now we need more than anything else to grind out wins and stop making it so easy for everyone to score against us. At least we've started getting the first bit of that right. The rest will hopefully come later, but despite looking disjointed and obviously missing something in midfield & attack we got 3 points, scored 3 and had the most stonewall pen/red card I've seen in ages denied. Yeah. I'm not sure where this need to go deeper and deeper in the last 20 minutes of matches comes from but it's a bit of a trait in our high pressure games in recent years. For a high pressing philosophy Rodgers sometimes employs the most unpressing game.

I think a big part of it is because the players don't trust themselves in possession when it comes down to it. Plenty of hoofery about tonight.

But we looked a bit more solid. A decent outball up front and it would be a different story for, as I feel he is playing much better of late, blistering speed on the break isn't really Lambert's bag.

The Mascherano red at Pompey while ignoring the same challenge from Michael Brown, the 2 reds at Fulham, booking Lucas for diving at Stoke when it was a stonewall pen, I could be here all night listing these. Our record in the league with him before tonight was 6 wins in 18 games and we'd only played 1 good team in that 18, City away last season where he was also utter ****. The other 17 games are Fulhams, Pompeys, West Broms etc. In short, he's a cunt.

Rodgers was on his last chance but he picked Gerrard in the correct position. At no point did Rodgers threaten our chances by putting Gerrard in DM or next to Lucas. Both of which would be critical faux pas.

Once the team was announced I quoted in the prediction thread we'd win 3-1, first scorer Lallana, second Gerrard and third Lambert. Henderson messed up a perfect night for me. Still worth a tonight though.

I'm not advocating playing Balotelli or his performances, I'm just saying I don't think that there's a huge difference between the 2. I'd rather have neither of them, but as you say it's what we have. I'm more saying that people are so much more patient and forgiving of other players.

I don't know, his team play is obviously better, but if Balotelli had done some of the things Lambert did against Stoke everyone would have been up in arms. He was caught in possession on a couple of occasions and belted the ball high and wide from 35 yards out.

Today he was constantly, inexplicably caught offside. I'm not in favour of supporters going after players for everything, but it's just blatant in this situation.

Lambert has done more in 3 games than Balotelli has in the rest of the season. The results speak for themselves.

Should we go balls out for Bony in January now that we know where we are in the striking department? I was dead against it in the summer but its funny how fit a fat bird looks when you haven't had any for 6 months.

nobody has scored more in 2014 think i heard at the weekend, he would be a massive upgrade on Lambert.....but we dont need 2 of these sort of plyers
