Lectar's right but so is rcasemore. Ffs a quandary. What I would suggest is that those players should have enough attacking play in them, theoretically.
Agree with the general gist of that line up, still not so sure about Markovic - that cameo didn't last very long, despite it looking promising.
I suspect Rodgers will go for a similar philosophy to Basle though, and we'll end up with a draw.
Aye it's a bit of a nightmare really and annoyingly Sturridge is just as likely to break down again before his return as he is to getting back and helping us out.
The problem with the two up top approach is we don't have two decent fit strikers to play that way.i do agree though that this is how I would like to see us line up when we have the players to do so
The summer recruitment for the attacking options should be questioned but playing a system without the right players to do so is also not the answer
We havent tried it this season so its an unknown. Stick Sterling or Markovic upfront with either Lambert of Balotelli, it might work
The problem for me with doing nothing and sticking is that we already know the current system has massive flaws and rarely brings us decent performances or results
Have some ****ing bottle, take the initiative as you never know
I worry for Brendan hes consistently trying the same fruitless thing over and over again and the more he does this the greater the ire amongst supporters grows. I honestly think if he tried something different it might by him some more time

It is a quandary
But to me its becoming last roll of the dice time
If he doesnt gamble he will be gone

We need to win the midfield battle I've not said we need to sit back but stifle them make sure we don't give them space and time to get at us and try and use the pace of Sterling and for me Markovic in this game to catch them at the back.
A lack of striking options is going to really hurt us until we can either get Sturridge back fit or bring someone else in to change back to the two up top system. I think we've used it once against Spurs when we had Mario and Sturridge fit and we looked good then sadly since then Sturridge has been shown to be made of biscuits and reverting to a 1 up top with Mario just hasnt worked.
I dont think we can win the midfield battle
Ours is as bad as theirs
I'd stifle them higher up the pitch, pressure their back four into making mistakes and turn it higher because I think they can be got at
I'd play one of Mario or Lambert with one of Sterling / Markovic up top
Any other 1 up top system leaves the lone striker isolated and none of our other attacking players have been getting anywhere near t him to support

I disagree I think we can IF we pick the right players - we need high intensity though and I'd like to see the 3 of Henderson, Can and Lucas whether that happens is a different matter
I agree with the pressing game we need to get back to utilising this properly the Mancs midfield is pretty poor tbh and we can get about them but we need the players to turn up and do so
It's all down to his team selection and how he sets us up. He needs to do something different but I think he ll go for the cautious approach again. Two poor sides but they have momentum.
Christ, we would have destroyed this Man United team last season, their ****e... But seemingly not as ****e as us.
I hope he was encouraged by the second half vs Basel and goes for an attacking approach - you could play Sterling and Markovic as free roaming "strikers" with Gerrard, Henderson, Lallana and Coutinho behind them. Lots of pace, lots of movement, lots of pressing.
I suspect we'll see the approach that we've used for the last few games though - and to be fair we are unbeaten in 5 games now, so it's had some limited success. I think that will be asking for trouble though. As Lecter says - their weakness is in defence, we need to attack them.
Looking at this thread I can only assume that many people on here haven't seen Man U play this season. They've fluked most good results they've had while playing mostly appallingly badly. They really are terrible and, despite our poor season so far, I'll be surprised if we don't end up well clear of them.

We'll definitely win
They're at Old Trafford & full of confidence.
We're away and desperately short of confidence. Roles reversed I'd have us down to win all day long. We couldn't even beat Basle in a must win game at Anfield. Make no mistake about it, we are rubbish at present.

Indeed. They are ****e but less ****e than us right now and have a functioning strike force. The manner of the Basel defeat rankles, going out with a whimper rather than fighting from minute 1 but it's exactly in line with how we've done for the most part this season. A lot of big talk from our dressing room but I still expect us to get beat unfortunately, I've heard the battle calls many times over the years before this game only to see us get done on the day with comparative ease.
