i look at the squad + Benteke and I think it is very strong on paper. I actually can't remember seeing a Liverpool side with so much pace and flair in it. The likely starting XI is not as good as the two runner up teams spearheaded by Torres and then Suarez but potentially greater depth there.

Sterling is a quality player but his position is well covered so not sure it will be that huge of a loss.

Too much weight is being given to the 'system'. I think a change back to a back 4 will be fairly significant but the differences between 4-3-3 and 4-3-2-1 are minimal. The philosophy will be similar but hopefully a bit more adaptive to the actual situations within each game.

How successful the team will be comes down to how they gel and make decisions on the field together.

Although not sure whether this is just me or not, but does anyone else look at other teams in the league and think the average standard of player at lower and mid table PL clubs has risen significantly since even 5 years ago.

It looks like a decent lfc squad especially compared to some others I've seen in my lifetime but then again so do most of the PL squads at every club.

      4 strikers (£60.5m)
      4 attacking midfielders (£57.5m)
      4 central midfielders (£56.0m)
      2 holding midfielders (£16.0m)

While I have not generally been supportive of couple of our signings this summer, I have to admit that the squad depth looks good (except maybe at fullbacks and DM). We have a decent number of dangerous and flair players on paper. The main reason for my slight pessimism is the experience of last summer where I thought we had a brilliant transfer window in August and how the season unfolded. Maybe I dont know enough about football, but I still have doubts about how the important pieces (Benteke, Coutinho, Firmino, Ings) fit together in our overall style of play. Having said that my optimism levels tend to increase significantly as the start of the season approaches.

Its crazy that Sturridge only cost £2.5 million more than Origi. What were Chelsea thinking?

I thought Wisdom came through the youth system.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think Lallana will start before Firmino to start with. We'll see a similar to team to the Brisbane one but with Benteke up top.

Some interesting details on this and it highlights how effective Atletico have been in buying good players cheaply. It's also really interesting to see how high Southampton figure on that list.

IMO in light of this, the minimum requirement should be 5th. with a proper challenge for fourth. We are probably among the sides that spend most per point.

We funded £50m of that Southampton spend.
