So does everyone think our player acquisitions are now over in this transfer window except for a number 2 striker behind Sturridge and a replacement for Lucas if and when he leaves the club?

Think the Benteke link is real (Sturridge, Origi, Ings, Balotelli, Lambert, Borini, Benteke - seven strikers and not too much quality?)

Think we desperately need a top class midfielder to sit in front of the back four. Lucas would be great but for his dodgy fitness. However, I think Rodgers plans to use Allen. That should please a few fans

I suspect that is not too far wrong (excluding youth purchases).

Enrique might be sold and a replacement bought. Similar to Lucas though I don't think a purchase will happen before a sale in that area.

I think it is already at about the limit where I think we have too much squad turn over.

Plus we are clearly looking to sign another so benteke/baca/rondon/someone else


For me that looks pretty strong....ideally I'd personally want to sell Allen and Enrique and sign better replacements, another good solid left back to cover Moreno given that flannagans injury means it will take him some time, and the centre mid still looks very lightweight to me, something we just haven't addressed in years so swapping Allen for someone better would be good. So adding a striker and clyne gives us my opinion a decent 28 man squad, if we can get the right type of striker to get the goals and could improve on Enrique and Allen then I would be really excited.


It means we have a ridiculous amount of people to sell tho...

Not too sure that all is finished on the acquisition but would suggest that we need another striker (looking like Benteke) and for me a proven centre half with good leadership skills to help improve and marshal that defence of ours.

Not too sure we really need to add any midfielders, dm or otherwise, however, would have liked to see a more seasoned GK, Cech would have been great imo with the mig No.2.

It's also important that we see some outgoings soon.

A good window? Only time will tell i suppose but much now depends on what the new coaching team brings to the table and whether we are able to have everyone at it from the off come the start of the season. Like many on here really not sure what the likes of O Driscoll will bring......Bournmeouth, Doncaster, Crawley!?

I think everything depends on whether we see the good Brendan Rodgers managing the team next season or the bad one.

If it's the bad one I've got serious doubts he will survive to the end of it or even to Christmas.

Agree for the large part but wonder in truth how much slack the club will actually cut BR given addition of new players and coaching staff?

I know its an age old excuse thrown up by clubs and managers but the reality is we have seen a fair bit of change in personnel over the last season or so. Does the latest raft of additions prolong his window in this respect or do we really expect to be challenging for silverware and/or top 4 on the basis of the squad as is?

My own opinion is that we are still one or two (seasoned) players short of truly competing but with the what we have available (and perhaps a striker to come) realistic expectations are that we should be a damned sight closer to top 4 than the season just gone.

Would be interesting to note what others "expectations" are for LFC based on the squad we have at our disposal?

Despite not having a proper DM (bar Lucas who I don't think will leave but will continue being injured a lot) I'm quite excited about the heartbeat of our team now. Gone are the days we would resign ourselves to seeing old-man-Gerrard or Allen there. 2 of Can, Hendo, Milner and Lucas should keep that midfield ticking over nicely across across all competitions. With the occasional contribution from Allen against less physical opposition.

Defenders will have to defend less and, more importantly, attackers will have to defend less. The net gain should be slighly fewer goals conceded and slightly more goals scored.

I'm going to predict that those four plus Origi will actually contribute to the team, which will be unusual since we are used to buy players who don't really do anything.

Those 4 should be starters, it looks like we have done what we needed to an improved the first 11 rather than just buy squad players. Of the players who left only Sterling was first choice so in theory that means we have improved 3 areas of the pitch and replaced one good player with another. Ings and Bogdan are obviously squad players, and Origi coming in a youngster on the fringes of the squad while Gomez is one for the future.

Based on your figures we have a net spend of £27.5-30.5m, when Benteke comes in that is probably most of our transfers in that we imagined done. There will be a few more departures, I imagine it is unlikely that all of Borini, Balotelli, Lambert, Enrique will be here when the window 'slams shut' But hopefully we will have some cash floating around to bring in anyone that might suddenly become available or for the January window if needed.
