I'm concerned that Rodgers thinks a better striker will solve our problems.

Does Rodgers deserve another season?

I'm a supporter of Rodgers but I would have to caveat that with the idea that he really better have a more nuanced view of our failing than he gives in public. If he really does think we are one player from glory and that the defense under him has been acceptable then it is hard to see him ever leading us to success.Originally posted by captainfog View PostI'm concerned that Rodgers thinks a better striker will solve our problems."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I think if he stays we will perform better next season. But I am just not that sure anymore if he can ever have us punching above our weight. He created a perfect storm last season, that sort of thing will never be a common occurrence.
If you take away the perfection, what are we left with? A manager who constantly gets outclassed tactically by other managers and one who fails to produce anything even half decent with a group of players that he isn't too happy with.
The biggest problem with Brendan is if his team isn't performing to their best, as a general rule they get beat. A team will never perform to their best levels all season, so he is likely a coach who will never quite get us over the line.Forwards.......

It's almost like we are the English version of AC Milan; they too are a huge club, but are second tier these days due to off field mismanagement. Its depressing, we have been falling behind for years, but it now feels as tough the snowball has got so large it's descent is unstoppable.Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostThis so called belief of us being second tier is truly depressing and it does appear to be creeping into the mentality of the club all be it from a fan pov We are one of the biggest and richest clubs in world football and if you look at the top 10 richest clubs we are the only one in the top 10 without regular CL football and that speaks volumes of the status of this club.
This club should be where Bayern , Real, Barca, United are but poor decisions over the past 20 years have been our undoing.
I'm starting to become more convinced that FSG won't allow Rodgers to spend big again.

No, I'm not saying that myself. Battle or not, it doesn't matter. My thought is that if we aren't playing well, we generally lose. Other teams around us may be able to dig in and shut up shop, maybe scrape a goal but just do enough to not get beat. A bit of mental strength.Originally posted by Maxiedge View PostYeah, I said it last week, we only beat teams that don't turn up (metaphorically

At times this season we have carved teams to pieces, and whilst we miss a bucket load of chances, we generally get something from the game. But when an opposition team has been wise to us and stopped us playing, there is just nothing there from us.
No magic or inspiration, despite having players available like Coutinho, Sterling, Ibe, Markovic, Lallana, etc. proper creative players who can bring something from nothing in past sides they've been in.
It probably is a battle thing like you suggest. When teams out play us we wilt, when teams out battle us we wilt. Because as you say we can't match it. It's a pathetic situation.Forwards.......

We have missed the odd sitter but the bulk of our shots / chances are hit and hopes from outside the box
I know the other week someone posted stats to show our chances were similar to last year but the stats themselves were based on any type of pass that led to a shot. I am not sure that is a stat I would be looking at to back up a belief they we are creating enough and just not putting them away
Finishing is a problem for us but generally we havent been anywhere near as creative as last seasonBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I think the reservation of him is probably appropriate. However, I don't know that the alternatives available actually solve many of the issues we have. If FSG hear a good explanation of our failings and a plan to improve then I think Rodgers has the talent and credit in the bank to continue. If he sees no problems behind closed doors then I think he has to be at risk.
Well I did say people in real life - match going fans - and on forums too. The tide has turned, no doubt about that. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

The problem for me with this question is that there's two issues.
Firstly, I can forgive us coming 5th (if that's what happens), losing Suarez and having Danny out all season whilst Utd went out and spent loads, it was always going to be difficult.
However, the negative side of things for me is the fact that its now 3 years and £220m in and it still feels like we need to create pretty much an entire new spine to the team. It still feels like we lack quality pretty much throughout most of the starting 11. That's just not excusable.
As I've touched on above, I'd be neither happy or sad if he stays or goes, and I don't think that's a good endorsement for him.SakhoPotatoes

In terms of match going fans the tide has massively turned (I'd say its by a much larger margin than the polling in this thread suggests)Originally posted by Shaggy View Post

I know where you are coming from. I don't recall too many games where a keeper has had a blinder. More often than not, we've played ourselves into a decent position and then done nothing with it.Originally posted by Lecter View PostPersonally I dont think we have missed bucket loads of chances this season

I accept that there is a general change in feeling but you always hear more from the dissatisfied and all it really says is that results are bad at the minute. There is very little evidence for our fanbase being more patient than others these days but it certainly hasn't become toxic in the way United with Moyes did (or Pardew at Newcastle or Alladyce at West Ham).Originally posted by Shaggy View Post

The real question is can Rodgers get better results as that will get people back on side."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

A concern for me is how ponderous we are in possession
Last season we were dynamic, tons of pace and movement
This season it seems slow, and too contrived and almost as though people arent willing to take the responsibility of attacking somebody in the hope that you create an opportunity
The only person who consistently threatens the opposition is Coutinho imo, the rest always seem to look at the easy option. Which invariably means passing backwards or across the park
Sometimes you have to threaten the opposition, take Palace as an example they were unafraid of taking on our defenders when they got into an attacking positionBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

This season was always going to be difficult. Suarez left a gaping hole that was impossible to fill. If we can get a top striker (20+ GPS), a beast of a CB and good RB I'm sure we will improve next season. Although definitely not faultless, I think Rodgers has had a rough deal this season. Definitely would be premature to get rid this summer.
