Incompetence or winging it.

I've long believed that people who do ratings for websites or newspapers don't watch the games they just give an average score based on the result and then adjust this by a point or two based on player reputation. Lucas was a classic example of this, he could dominate a game and would regularly get a 5/10 because the media had decided he was ****.

you have to feel that his start has been eased because he is playing alongside big virge, perfect for him to learn better positioning, when to play it and when to launch it.
i shudder to think how his development might be so different if he had to play alongside lovren, even though he is in his pomp as the best defender in the world.

To be fair, having to rate 22+ players is a hiding to nothing.
Almost impossible to get them all right, not that everyone will be in total agreement anyway.

I can’t stand player ratings, but I don’t blame the journalists. Most of them hate having to do it.
