He was good, but 6/13 for Aerial duels is a long way off Van Dijk levels.

Yeah, he does that quite a lot.

And sometimes he doesn't. And when he doesn't, that's what people tend to focus on.

The life of a defender, I suppose.
        Oh I don't know.

Amazing for a big strapping 6'2 fella how many balls he loses in the air. Big area for improvement. Thought he was great tonight though.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

It's a strange one, aerial issues have been a thing for him but he isn't a small guy. Forgetting that, he was excellent, especially on the ball which is another thing he can struggle with. VVD is a beast in the air, one of the best in the world so we are always going to miss that, Matip back will be huge for us to combat that but impressed with Joe's performance and a real chance for him to stake a claim. On the other hand Fab was all over the shop after a masterclass vs Ajax. No grey areas with Fab though either outstanding or dreadful.

"All over the shop", "dreadful", etc. etc. That's what people have issues with Dan. There's no nuance and you seem to see things in an extremely exaggerated way.

Fabinho was never "all over the shop". Made one mistake and was commanding all game. Joe Gomez hardly ever puts a foot wrong, makes a few mistakes sometime, but he still "struggles with the ball" according to you.

Glad you're not a football manager or a writer as you'll be getting pelters, not just from here.
              Are we winning?

I'm not a writer or a manager, i'm fan just like yourself and I have zero problems in admitting I am wrong especially commenting during the heat of a game... it happens. That's what I love about our match threads in the moment real reactions and emotions we are not ****ing robots mate. All part of the roller coaster experience of being a football fan. It's only you and dom who chase me around, most other posters who disagree with things I say (which happens) are usually well balanced and up some good debate. Part and parcel of why we as LFC supporters choose to take the time to go on a public forum to express our opinions.

You constantly bleat on about me and have done for years, your lack of awareness about your own posts is really amusing Nigel. You are a contrarian true and true and you post for reaction pure and simple. Regarding the above comment I do think Fab all over the shop and there are no grey areas with him. Ok fair enough would mixed bag suit better? I also said Fab had a great game vs Ajax and was man of the match but lets just ignore that positive comment. Gomez does make a few too many mistakes, I doubt there are many pool fans who would disagree with that. I also said he had a great game and was man of the match but sure lets just ignore that positive comment too.

Maybe look at your own posts instead of cherry picking the negative posts of mine. But you got your reaction which you crave

Contrarian to your worldview maybe. If I post something to get a reaction, it's most of the time to react to a completely absurd post. Some people like to come on here to vent their frustrations and are hardly seen posting when things are going well.

It's not just about the negatives though, but the use of superlatives when describing some of our players. When you do, you don't realise that it's not at all constructive to any discussion. To be fair to you, maybe the match threads aren't the place for that.

I was gonna suggest maybe you stop posting during the game itself? Maybe do it at half time after a few minutes of thinking what to say (I rarely post during the game itself and usually do at half time). It's not like we're all in a pub and shouting obscenities at the screen while reacting to the game. You've got to pick up your phone (or laptop) and write what's gone through your mind a few seconds earlier.

                  Anyway, have a good Sunday.

No Nigel you most definitely a contrarian, as sure as water is wet. I'm here win or lose so maybe I'm a glutton for punishment. I couldn't care less what people post, show your emotions, post what you want, say what you want, be who you want to be. For the love of god man stop preaching to others about how to post or what you think is the specific and proper way to post in your opinion because that's just what it is... your opinion. You post on here for reaction and that's fine. It's football, we are lucky to have this outlet so have at it. I have a suggestion for you, get over it man, other people have other opinions and views and ways of expressing their views. It's an open forum, embrace it and get that giant stick out of your arse

Back to Gomez, i think we'll just have to accept he's never going to be brilliant in the air. If he produces performances like that week after week there'll be no problem as long as his partner is. And all our other CBs are tbf.

I wonder if a move to left CB has helped Gomez

My memory might be sketchy, but wasn't Gomez really good in the air in the first half of the 18/19 season, before he got injured? Him and VVD were imperious together for that period of time.

Never been great in the air - he had to get special training at Charlton to help him

Didn't know that. I'm just casting my mind back to that purple patch he had. Might be mistaken on his aerial ability during that period.
