If we turn out like that have we not got this the wrong way round?
One up front and a defensive midfield against West Ham at home and then 2 up front away to United with an open midfield when it is their strongest position.
The concern for me would be they put the 3 central and dominate possession and the middle of the park leaving us to defend for large periods which will only end one way.

To address your first point, yes we did get the West Ham game wrong. Why the feck play Lucas when you know Wham were going to do nothing but sit back?
But I don't think we've got this wrong. Swansea 'sat back' against Utd first half and were ineffective. Changed to diamond formation, giving Gomis more ammo and support against Blind and they collapsed. At all times Utd had huge amounts of possession. Which meant squat.
Tbh, we've got some top players and if we turn up on the day and don't wilt, we can beat them. I don't think the formation & tactics mean too much in this sort of game. Rodgers has to get them motivated and he needs them to come out fighting.
Last year was the perfect example. Basically we need the complete opposite of what we showed in the double header against Man U & Arsenal towards the back end of the season. In those games we were lifeless and had no belief we could get a result. Turn up with a similar mindset on Saturday and we will get beat no problems.

I would have to agree with you Dan. We have enough talent and pace in our squad to cause this group of united players a real threat, but we need to get at them from the off, it will rattle them a lot.
We must have service for Benteke up front - say with Ings or even Origi (but preferably Ings). We need to press and put them on the back foot, get at their defence.
I'd like us to use the diamond formation, we play our best football in that system, imo, but I guess Rogers will go 433 and stick with the same back 4- although I do have this feeling we'll go with two up front. I would be at all surprised to see DS on the bench, depends on is fitness i guess.
