Rodgers is in his 4th season and has a lot to prove this year. He should have been able to field a stronger and better organized side.

It's disjointed because he doesn't know how he wants to play and is fielding a team that doesn't have enough experience.

It's not the fault of the fringe players and I don't blame them.
but being positive, that was a pretty good second eleven or whatever we have now. And he was trying to give them more experience... I do think that he considers the competition as an unwelcome and tiring distraction from the league though and pretty much wants to throw it - which, while possibly pragmatic, is controversial...

I totally agree with it being Rodgers fault & I also blame him for chopping & changing the formation & playing players out of position etc. Totally agree.

3 points on Sunday is far more important IMO & if we get that BR will feel he's had a successful week.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Low described him as a defensive midfielder who can also play right back. he then got played at right back, most likely because Germany are far stronger in midfield than they are at right back. After Lahm, there hasn't been anyone come through who looks like owning that position for a while.

Rodgers said at the start of the season he saw him as a controlling midfield. I think he was hinting as the deepest lying midfielder who looks to dictate the tempo of the game.

This was also hinted at by the German u21 coach claiming Can was going to play the 'Steven Gerrard' position this season.

Due to Lucas' revival and hendersons injury, he has been playing further forward in the midfield 3.

I think he wants to be the one who gets on the ball deep and distributes it, occasionally making a burst with those energetic forward runs.

I still think he deserves a crack sitting deep with milner and henderson ahead.

I was still sitting on the fence about Rodgers prior to the united game but i think your points have swayed me. to be in your 4th season and have a lack of identity isn't good enough. It's much more than most managers get both in terms of time and funds.

Even during that good run of form last season, the results appear better than the performances really were. This season is the same so far bar the Arsenal half.

Really, that wasn't a very good second 11. Unfortunately 4 or 5 of them are inexperienced first 11 players and the others are a pretty poor second 11 if you compare us with the other top 4 contenders.

Now if you see us as a mid table aspiring Europa team that then throws away the competition as an unwanted distraction after reaching it.

Well in that case yes that's a pretty good second 11.

This is how I see it, once we have Henderson back...a midfield 3 of Can, Henderson and Milner, with can the deepest of the three. Can experience of playing in a back 3 will serve him well in that role.
