Rodgers: please pick a formation that you intend to use for the foreseeable. Then try the fringe players in that formation and see if they can earn a place in the team.

I think he actually did that against Bordeaux and he was rewarded with good performances from Sakho and Moreno. Had he actually gone two up top that game with Ings & Origi one of them might have shown they were ready to start today.

I think he will stick with a similar formation, a back 3 and wingbacks. Not sure what we do in midfield or if we can spare a couple of strikers

I don't care how Rodgers pieces together the team, but the formation & tactics must be consistent now to give the players half a chance of becoming settled.

Play Jerome Sinclair up front if we are struggling for strikers. Anyone, just stick with the formation we will play v Villa.

I bet Carlisle are looking at us and thinking, "these guys have a manager that is under huge pressure & a team with no real identity and a soft centre". If Carlisle decide to go at us and get stuck in, I genuinely think they could get something out of the game.

He had a ton of money to spend in the summer.

He should've picked the formation he wanted, moved the players he has available into the side into positions they fit, and then in the places he lacked players, spent the money accordingly.

If he'd have done this every transfer window we'd have a clear way of playing and plenty of players who fit the system & style. Instead we are a mess.

yeah I have got the feeling for a while now that his formations and tactics are more guesswork and hopeful... than actually a knowledgeable solution.

I'd play a second 11 except for Sturridge who probably needs the game time. I've no idea who would play left wing back the best I can think of is Lallana but I may be catching the craziness from Rodgers Ibe isn't a wingback but it's the only place he is going to get game time.

The defence looks terrible and I feel bad about sticking Gomez in there with those two.

Origi, Firmino need games and I'd like to see Teixeira get game time.

I remember him. He was in charge of Chelsea and took them to the CL final. It turned out to be a complete fluke and in reality he'd just struck gold at landing the Chelsea job at the right time.

The longer this drags on, the more Rodgers looks to have fluked 13/14. To be honest Rodgers isn't that bad, maybe Roberto Di Matteo would be a better Chelsea example.
