I don't think Rodgers has ignored them at all he does however seem incapable of solving the issues. Skrtel and his dropping off, Lovren and well being Lovren, Sakho seemingly incapable of staying fit and Kolo just seems well past his best.
He's spent a lot of money at the back, certainly in the central area and none of them perhaps bar Sakho look good enough for the long term.

We were the better team definitely, but if any game sums up why Rogers should go it is this one. A Villa team with no real ambition to win the game, and creating pretty much nothing against us, manage to score 2 goals. That in a nutshell shows Rogers incompetence. We should have been out of sight.Originally posted by Havors View Post3-2 flattered villa, but **** me Emre Can is a ****ing liability defensively!
As for Can, he isn't a defender, his preferred position is midfield. I thought that when Gerrard went, that is exactly what Rogers was going to do. Can could be an absolute legend for us, imo, in center midfield, and he has some shot on him too. But Rogers is ruing him, playing him in defense.
Coutinho is another one who is trying way too hard at them moment, his finishing and pass selection are both shocking at the moment. You can see the lack of confidence and nervousness in a lot of players at the moment, again down to Rogers ham-fisted tactics and formations.
Everton and Spurs away up next. A solid, confident Everton team and a Spurs team that just dismantled Man City, so high on confidence. Two very testing games, and they could be Rogers last.El Kloppo !!

regarding the issue of can being suspect as a defender and skrtel dropping off until he is almost stood on mignolets toes...
if rodgers had the good sense to play gomez as the RCB then gomez is fast enough to step out and make the initial interception. should the attacker push the ball past him to run on to it the gomez doesnt need to take the attacker out, and then skrtel can easily collect the free ball without the need to drop off continually.
this would allow us to play a slightly higher line and ensure our midfield is at least within sight of the defence and also the forwards.removing all the weak links makes us stronger

Another question would be why the **** didn't Mignolet step one yard of his line and catch it, as Sakho and Can were obviously expecting him to?Originally posted by Snigger View PostA better question would be wtf is Rodgers doing playing a midfielder in defence and why does he keep ignoring our centre back frailties in the transfer windows.

Rodgers signed Mignolet and ditched Reina. He had a chance to sign a keeper this summer. Honestly, I think Bogdan looks better suited to a Rodgers team.Originally posted by calvoboy View PostAnother question would be why the **** didn't Mignolet step one yard of his line and catch it, as Sakho and Can were obviously expecting him to?
He's an inferior keeper, but he's a better fit, more comfortable with his kicking and at claiming high balls. Migs doesn't suit a modern team.Forwards.......

It's basic goalkeeping.Originally posted by Snigger View PostMignolet also suffers from an ever changing and poor back four with no confidence playing in front of him. I'm not defending him as a keeper but he would be better if he could trust a stable back four who know what they are doing.
He's as much the cause of our defensive problems as the ever changing two in front of him are. You need both centre backs (or all three) and keeper to be working together for a good defence, but at the moment I don't fully trust any of the three/four of them, and I don't think they trust each other.

Has anyone else mentioned Sktrel's horrendous positioning for Villa's 1st goal yet?
Yes Gestede lost Can but Skrtel is next to Sakho beyond the near post leaving a good 5 yards smack bang in the middle of the goal unattended.
It's not ****ing rocket science Marty, if the LCB is in the near post space you defend the centre of the goal and cut out the cross.
Unfathomable how Gomez cannot get a game ahead of Can or Skrtel.
Another game, another big error, another goal conceded but everyone talks about Sakho and Can again, I have no idea how Skrtel gets away with it.The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I thought Mignolet was the major culprit for the first goal
What the tv footage didnt show was Sakho absolutely ripping into him after the goal
I got the impression that there was a shout either from Mignolet or the defenders and Mignolet just stayed glued to his line whilst the ball wafted across the box 3 yards in front of him
Mignolet is a terrible keeper, in the first half he flapped at a ball he should have caught and almost handed Villa a goal
His distribution is horrendous I've lost count the number of times he catches the ball has a defender free for an early ball yet he dithers around letting the opposition regroup and eventually decides to play it to the same defender who was free but is now markedBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. Said the same yesterday about a shout. Seems strange to do what Sakho did, looks like he got a shout. Might have been one of the villa players trying it on but I thought he got one and like you say, I noticed he went ballistic at Mignolet so I thought he had got a shout off him. There was a rumour I read elsewhere that they had to be kept apart in the dressing room after cos of that goal.Originally posted by Lecter View PostI thought Mignolet was the major culprit for the first goal

In general I think we need to have a settled system with consistent personnel for a few games before we make judgments on what our best options are. Obviously our transfers (or lack of them in some areas) leave us with limited choices but I think we can do better."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

we need to send him on some aggression training of some sort, bring out his inner angry chimp.Originally posted by Vermilion View Post
