Hard to call this a succesfull season - we've had managers sacked for the same bottom line before after all. And it's really never good when you've had to fire one in the first place. But at least the second half looked much better and is leaving an optimistic feeling around the club going in to the next season.

So Origi, Milner, Firmino and Clyne have been succesfull signing I believe and something to build on next season. Also a lot of players have improved their performance recently. Kolo, Lovren, Moreno, Lallana and Allen have become much better players I think and shows promise heading in to the summer. Still have some weaknesses but the squad overall looks better than it did at the start of the season. So a lot of praise to Klopp and his team for that.

By far the best thing that have happened is exactly getting in Klopp, Buvac & co. They've created a lot of energy on and off the field. They also look promising going in to the summer transfer market, which will be huge this summer I reckon (generally not just for us).

Final tonight is going to be huge in determining if we can sneak the season up to being acceptable rather than disappointing overall. Generally that will likely also have a huge impact on our summer transfer targets.

Overall I'm positive and can look past the results because of the positive signs there are around the club and on the pitch atm.

A major cup win and CL qualification can only be seen as a very good season surely?

Yes, a lot of **** has happened this year, but if we get the victory tomorrow night, all that will be forgotten about and this season will be probably be remembered as our best (or most pivotal maybe) since 2005. I suppose a case could be made for the seasons we finished 2nd or Kenny’s cup success, but ultimately we failed in the end and that’s what will be remembered.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Well ultimatly 8th place finish in the PL is far from succesfull. I know a secondary ticket in to the CL is great and will be a huge bonus for us, but looking at Sevilla it hardly managed to transform their average. It will be great to be back, but I still think it will be hard to get the transfer window optimal because of the league table.

It just doesn't make the season as a whole a succesfull one compared to where we generally want us to be as a club. I will be happy compared to where we were back in the fall, but for it to be a great season is a bit much I reckon. Acceptable would stille be my judgment (perhaps good) - been able to challenge for fourth would have made a big difference IMO.

But ultimatly the biggest thing for me is that optimism is back at the club and we seem to have a much better setup which can easily carry me in to next season with my head up - no matter the result in the final!

**** me, you are hard to please mate. Winning a European trophy qualifies as just "acceptable"?! Though I know what you mean tbf it doesn't change the fact we've had a **** domestic season but still, win tomorrow and it's one of our best seasons in a decade. The title challenging season was fun but I'd take this assuming we win tomorrow every time!

We finished 6 points off 4th which could easily have been achieved were we not concentrating on the UEFA. Finishing 4th with no cups would have been a successful season, so IMO winning a cup and still getting CL qualification counts as a great season.

The season 'as a whole' doesn't matter IMO. It's like looking at a match in which you get battered for 90 minutes but score a 90th minute winner. Doesn't matter that you weren't the best team, it was still a great result.

Agree with this. It's massively devaluing the UEFA cup if winning it isn't a great season, even without the massive bonus of Champions League qualification.

Nobody's happy with our league position but surely it can be discounted as we changed managers midway through the season and initial impressions are the new one might be better than the old one.

Yeah I agree that we could have got 4th if we weren't on a good cup run & needed to rest the whole first 11 for the last few matches. Klopp has got. Back playing attractive football again so IMO it's been a successful season in terme of where we started to where we are now.

I get both your points and I'm not that far from being there - it's perhaps just semantics or what you put in to words. All I'm saying is that it's an acceptable season if we win tonight but it's still some distance from being a very good season when looking at the whole spectacle. Still leaving me more optimistic about our future that I've been in a long time, but a league cup final is not really something any top team meassures succes on tbh. but a Euro League final would defo be a good acheivment. The league finish just kinda takes it down a noch so landing on a more average outlook for me.

That said a win will defo carry a lot in to next season although it still won't hide the flaws that we really need to get done with and that I do expect the current setup to be able to do. I just don't to carried away with a final in terms of it transforming us as it's rarely done that to any other team. Will be fantastic to get the feeling of winning something important again

Bar the obvious benefits of winning tomorrow, Klopp needs to end this run of cup final defeats before it becomes an issue. 5 in a row is a record Arsenal would be proud of.

From when Klopp was appointed and on, I think this has been marvelous tbh, two finals and a chance of CL, exceeds all my expectations. In September I thought the season was a write off and we were heading nowhere with Rodgers saying he needed time to rebuild, infact that anyone who came would need transition and rebuild, so for Klopp to stuff that and reach two finals is bloody amazing in my book, not intended to have a go at you I get where you at but I'm way over here
                      * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I think Klopp has done very well in sticking with his primary formation of 4-2-3-1, and seeing which players fit into his style, and which of them do not. Players have had to press, and get used to the intensity. Now we have a clearer idea on who should stay, and who will not make it. I know there have been calls for him to play the diamond more often, but that didn't make sense to me, because there's always been a bigger picture.

**** top 4 or any cups being the measures for success this season, we won Jurgen Klopp!

Might be lost in translation a little, but it's only acceptable if we WIN the Europa League? New manager wins Europa League in his first season, and it is merely acceptable?

                              Tough crowd!
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

Pako Ayesteran once said that our season in 2004/2005 was a poor one, and that was after finishing 5th, reaching a League Cup Final, and winning the Champions League.
