First half Coutinho, Firmino, Ejaria, Brannagan and even Mane wanted to play in exactly the same position. So last sesaon.

Second half we brought on pace from central mid (Alex Trent Arnold), the wings (Kent) and even up front (Woodburn). Completely different match and gave Wigan all sorts of different problems to deal with.

My (preseason only) take on the players: Matip looks like a proper unit. And he seems to have the game intelligence to go with it (specially when he saw Wisdom struggling against pace twice and positioned himself well before it became a danger). I even wouldn't mind seeing him play in the middle alongside Grujic.

Illori is not built for the PL. Can't jump or head the ball unfortunately. Kent and Woodburn were great. Ings better start finishing half chances, thankfully it looks like he might be able to. Markovic was surprisingly effective in a free role, Wigan had no idea what to do about him.

Markovic needs a shrink to look into his eyes and talk him out of his shell, even when he set up Ings with a lovely lofted pass he didn't make sure to get over for a high five moment.

Coutinho's little shimmy was lovely, Carry On Karuis but hopefully that won't be the start of a long running series!

Loved Woodburns finish pinged the ball with lovely technique. He was bossing U16s at 14 so he was moved up to the U18s at 15 and now he's effectively too good for the bulk of the U21s who were playing Germany yesterday, as a 16 year old.
