We really need to buy a LB because as decent as Milner is he will get exposed by good teams.

What was Lovren's error? The goal?

Thought it was just very good play from Dzeko. He controlled it on his chest on the edge of the area, so think Lovren was right not to overcommit for the initial ball. Dzeko turned and Lovren positioned to block the curler to the far post, but Dzeko wrapped hit foot around the ball and went the opposite way.

Could Lovren have did better? Yes. Was it terrible defending? Not really.

      Mignolet is a melon.

Having seen the highlights Manniger was at fault for the first and for sure Mignolet could have done better with the second... simply wasn't brave enough.

But overall, meh - we had loads of changes and it's more about getting minutes.

With it being a friendly, and us already having a No1 keeper injured, maybe Mig was right not to stick his head in harms way ?

Doubt if he'd reasoned it as such - he's just a ****house

This isn't based on one game alone, Lovren makes mistakes every game and if he is a starting CB for us we will continue to concede soft goals. Re the goal he could face been tighter and if was a good finish but he conceded many other chances to Dzeko when marking him.

Just my opinion but I don't rate him.

Fair enough. Personally I think he's the least of our problems at the back, well maybe behind Clyne.

I don't care what age he is, I'd rather see Manniger in goal than Mig. Already he's costing us. Losing Karius was a massive blow. Telling that Manniger started the game, he hadn't got a sniff while Karius was fit.

I saw the game, apart from the last 15 minutes when I fell asleep.

1st half was defensively dreadful. Roma went through us with ease so many times, they could have been 2 or 3 nil up in 10 minutes had it not been for Manninger and their own incompetence. The problem was mostly in Can and Wijlnaldum, who offered absolutely no defensive cover. Klavan and Lovren looked confused and lethargic, and Milner was too often caught up front, allthough he was our best player by far if you ask me.

Our attacking play got much better after the first 15 minutes and we managed to get ourselves into some really nice opportunities, but their goalie was amazing. Should be a lot of goals in this team if they get used to a certain system - last night it was almost impossible to figure out our formation, because everyone was everywhere, at times it was almost chaotic and you could see that even the players were sometimes unsure what to do; Sturridge was often deeper than Can, Wijnaldum our only DM, Mane, Ojo and Firmino almost bumping into each other. But you could see there's a lot of goalscoring potential in there.

Second half wasn't football. It was awful to watch and Mignolet's defending for their second goal made me regret staying up. Wijnaldum was the only player who wasn't subbed at HT, he was replaced by Brannagan around 70 minutes; personally I thought he was ****, contributed nothing defensively nor up front. Still early days. Stewart and Wisdom actually looked better than Lovren and Klavan. The rest of it was just hoofing, fouls and throw-ins, so I couldn't take it anymore and went to bed.

There are def more pressing issues at the back but I just don't think he is good enough long term.

He started as Mignolet only joined up with the squad late and who knows Manniger may have been earmarked for a half in this final game stateside.

Yep. Wisdom's look of disgust at him said it all. We've got a goalie who cant pass, wont distribute quickly, doesn't talk to his defence, wont come off his line, wont bravely throw himself in the way and last season had one of the worst save percentages in the league. I can't think of one good attribute he has or brings to this team. He's ****, cowardly and the CB's must hate him. It's made even worse by getting a glimpse of the complete opposite of that during pre season in Karius now he's ****ing injured! He cant come back soon enough.

Nothing at all, which was my point.

I think if we could get a settled back 4/5, we'd see less mistakes and a lot more consistency from all our defenders, but once again that looks like a bit of a pipe dream and we’ll be chopping and changing quite regularly again.
