Wouldn't it be great if we'd signed Sane instead of Man City?

'Anfield is an advantage but we are ready for Turf Moor'

Jürgen Klopp insists he has not even thought about the prospect of Liverpool kicking off the new season with consecutive away games - simply because the reasons for what is a somewhat unusual situation are completely out of his control.

The Reds were scheduled to host Saturday's opponents Burnley in their second Premier League outing of 2016-17, but were allowed to move the fixture to Turf Moor due to the ongoing redevelopment of the Main Stand at Anfield.

With an away EFL Cup tie against Burton Albion and a trip to Tottenham Hotspur also on the horizon, Klopp's team will have played four straight away games by the time they get their maiden run-out on Merseyside this term when Leicester City visit on September 10.

But that is of little concern to the boss who, despite acknowledging the advantage provided by playing in front of the Reds' passionate home support, says he is prepared for the challenge the Clarets pose no matter what the venue.

"I’m so long in this business but I can't exactly describe the advantage of a home game - but there is an advantage," he told reporters.

"Of course, the atmosphere always helps in good moments. I was never in this situation, but I heard that the home atmosphere can be different [elsewhere] so that it doesn’t help one or the other team, that's all possible.

"But I would think about it if I could change it, and I can't change it. We have the situation with the new stand, we knew it for a long time, and so that's absolutely clear.

"When the fixtures came out we knew the second matchday was Burnley, that's difficult enough. It would've been difficult enough if it was here, there are no easy games to play in this league.

"That we play [at Turf Moor] is not something we really think about. I know about the home record of Burnley; until the Swansea game they were unbeaten [since January] so they are really strong and feel confident at home. That makes it not easy for us.

"But they are new in the league and if it had been for them the first away game at Anfield, that’s a nice atmosphere and something you are looking forward to when you are promoted - that would've been difficult too.

"That we play now in Burnley, that we then play at Tottenham, it's nothing we can change so we don’t think about it."

Jürgen Klopp on Sadio Mane injury and LFC fitness latest

Jürgen Klopp has confirmed he doesn’t believe Sadio Mane’s shoulder problem is a serious one – and revealed better news on the fitness of James Milner, Daniel Sturridge and Lucas Leiva.

Mane sustained a knock in training on Wednesday and was taken to hospital for a scan as a precautionary measure, which revealed a muscle injury.

Klopp admits the Senegal forward is a doubt for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Burnley, but doesn’t anticipate a lengthy stint on the sidelines for the summer signing.

“It was a situation, a challenge between two players up in the air, coming down and then Sadio fell on his shoulder but it’s not that serious,” the boss told reporters at Melwood.

“In this moment, I have no idea if he could be available for the weekend or not, but I don’t think it will take a long time. It would have been better without this situation, but things like this will always happen and you cannot avoid this.

“In the first moment it was not too good, but meanwhile I think it is all OK.”

Elsewhere, the Reds welcomed back Milner and Sturridge into full training this week ahead of the journey to Turf Moor after they sat out the Premier League opening-weekend victory at Arsenal.

Lucas Leiva has also stepped up his rehabilitation programme as he recovers from a hamstring issue, while Mamadou Sakho continues to edge closer to full fitness.

Klopp continued: “In full training [we have] Millie and Daniel. Lucas is on a good way and made the warm up with us and then we let him do something else. Maybe today he is in team training, we will see.

“Mama is in a better way, not part of team training but is not too far away from it, so that’s good.”

As Liverpool’s injury list decreases and players who returned to pre-season training later continue to enhance their fitness levels, Klopp admits he will have plenty to consider when deciding his line-up for the clash with the Clarets.

“Emre Can came later in the pre-season, but as everybody could see when he came on [at Arsenal] he is in a good way,” said the manager. “Daniel Sturridge is back. Divock Origi came later in the pre-season but again is getting better and better. He was not in the line-up, but he could be in the line-up - the same for Joel Matip, who had little injury issues, and Millie is back. He missed maybe eight or nine days but is always in good shape physically, so I don’t think he lost a lot. He is an option, like a few other players too.

“My job is to watch through the week who gives me which signs and then I will make the line-up. The last game is one thing I think about, of course – it’s important but not the only thing I should use for my decision.”

The forthcoming fixture will see Liverpool taking on the former club of Danny Ings, who featured – and scored - for the Reds’ U23s last Sunday as he continues to work towards reaching peak condition following a lengthy lay-off.

Klopp said: “I like Danny. I talked to him and I told him last week that in my opinion it makes more sense that he collects game time, that he can play – as he did, he scored a goal, all good.

“But the situation here is like it is. You can ask me about it, or you already know about it. We don’t have a big problem at this moment – and hopefully it stays like this - on strikers.

“We need to work, every player needs to work and be available and then I have to make decisions, that’s how it is. Show me your best and I will make decisions. The most comfortable situation for me would be that the decisions are really difficult to make.

“It’s pretty possible, and hopefully it stays like this, that I have to make on Friday really difficult decisions because no-one has given me a sign that they don’t want to be involved. That’s a manager’s life.”

Boss: Lallana strike the perfect example for all players

Adam Lallana's goal at Arsenal was the perfect kind for Jürgen Klopp and stands as an example of what Liverpool must do regularly this season.

The midfielder, operating from a slightly deeper role in the centre, put the Reds in front at Emirates Stadium four minutes into the second half.

Lallana was one of several players waiting to receive Georginio Wijnaldum’s cross from the left side as Klopp’s charges sensed an opportunity to hurt the Gunners.

His control opened up an angle to shoot and the No.20’s finish beyond Petr Cech was clinical, helping to inspire the two further goals that followed.

Four days on, as the manager previewed the Premier League clash with Burnley this Saturday, he was asked whether Lallana has been tasked with scoring more often.

Klopp explained that he had no special concern about the Englishman’s tally but merely wants him and all of his teammates to be in the right places to strike.

The boss said at Melwood: “I remember last season we had a talk, I don’t know exactly when it was. He actually came to me and spoke to me.

“I didn’t really recognise it as an issue. Of course, everybody could score more goals, but I was really happy with his performances and we scored goals.

“It’s not something you can force, you can’t say ‘come on, score goals’.

“But what you can do and that’s why I especially liked the Adam Lallana goal at Arsenal, is Adam involved and six players in the box. That’s the sign for a good team performance and a confident team performance. That’s really important, that we have these different options in the box.

“Gini could make the cross and there were three options to take the ball – Adam was the quickest and finished the situation. That’s a perfect goal, in my opinion.

“It’s not about goalscoring, it’s about being in the right positions to be a threat. They can all score goals and they have all scored goals in their life.

“It’s about being confident enough to be close enough to the right situation so that you can really have the opportunity to score.

“He is playing in a new position. It’s not too new. We changed the style a little bit and he is still a really offensive player. So he needs to be in and around the box in situations like that, and he was – all good.”

nah, reckon we will go with Firmino up top and push lallana into mane's role and keep gini where he is.
Nice to have options and wouldn't be surprised to see Marcovic get an appearance.

Message from Klopp's interview is that we have genuine competition for places and every player is going to have to work hard and be in form to make the starting line up. That is brilliant.

We had a very good bench against Arsenal at the weekend but what is really pleasing is that we had a lot of players - quality players - that didn't even make the bench. And most of them are coming back from injury.

                    It's great.

I fancy us to get at least top 4 this year. I actually think we can challenge for the league and I think if we can be in a position where we are within 4 to 6 points of the top with 10 games to go, then we will have a right crack at winning it.

                        Nah lets smash those cunts.....

                        We're gonna beat them.......then Spurs........then Leicester.........

4 wins out of 4 before we go to Stamford Bridge. If we make it 5 from 5 then we will spank Hull and Swansea. And have 21 points after 7 ****in games. Then United will travel to Anfield and Jose get a right spanking from Klopp - under the lights on a Monday night. We will murder them......... can't ****in wait

Moreno annoys me no end but to be fair to the lad, he is an attacking fullback and sometimes I think his team mates dont do him any favors ... Still as the age old adage goes .... Stay on your feet Moreno San !!!

I agree & it annoyed me that ppl blamed him for being out of position for Walcotts goal. His job is to get forward to offer width when we've got the ball which he was doing until we lost possession in a bad part of the field.
