With no european football I've been hoping (but not expecting) that we might have half a chance this year. Clearly not if we're going to be a guaranteed 3 points for the relegation threatened teams.

Might bmore to that than first meets the eye. We used to beat big teams and **** up against **** regularly back then tooOriginally posted by Fredo View PostAnyone has a feeling this team's set up is reminiscent of the Roy Evan's era teams? Great going forward, but tactically limited and defensively frail.

it looks like our lads are still learning this new 433 system. Both advanced midfield players in wijnaldum and lallana played really poorly today, lallana we already know his limitations but wijnaldum has looked lost in the two games ive seen. Its early doors but he doesnt look comfortable. for me only one of those two can play with Can and hendo the other two in those positions. But we need to buy another world class midfield player.
Firmino cant play with sturridge so its either the 433 with firmino or sturridge leading the line or 4231 with origi with firmino in behind. Nothing else has worked, they just cannot play together.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

We didn't start playing until after Christmas that year so all is not lost. If you don't have hope and aspire to be the best I don't see the ****ing point in supporting a football team to be quite honest. I'd rather they let me down than never dream in the first place.Originally posted by Slinky Skills View PostWe won't though, I'd rather take a **** boring 1 nil win than concede two every game and end up with heart problems. We're scary to watch and we're going to struggle to break down teams like this on a weekly basis. I know it's only the second game of the season but that today was really worrying to watch.

Shocking performance, it goes to show it's not how much of the ball you have but it's what you do with it that counts. The defensive side of our game (Defence and CM) was shocking again, attack wise we were left just shooting from long range most of which posed no problem for their keeper. Those players are far too inconsistent when they play well they look top class, when they don't they are more or less passengers.
Milner at LB had alot of space and alot of chances to put balls into the box but all of them were blocked or cut out without posing a problem. For all our possession I can't recall any good chances and the central strikers weren't in the game.
I said last week that I thought that our side switch between attack mode and defence mode and when defending it's like we forget to attack, well today it showed the other way when attacking no-one considers the consequences of losing the ball. We saw this for the 2nd goal. Our attacking and defensive play aren't linked whatsoever and that is down to the CM and a lack of leadership in there. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The other thing that is so frustrating is the pace of the game, we were slow in our play. Burnley had clearly set up to play with 2 banks of four which were well organised, in these types of games we need to move defenders about stretch play I don't see how playing a slow game and giving them time to get back into their formation helps us beat a team that plays this way.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It looks like we've bought players and then tried to fit them into a formation instead of buying players for a formation.
Mig/Karius(Who knows at this point)
Clyne Lovren Sahko Moreno
Henderson Can
Mane Firmino Coutinho
Sturridge/Origi
Is probably our best team at this moment in time, that means that only one player we have bought so far to go into our "best" first team is Mane.
The likes of Gruijic and Matip may well find their ways into the team, but the problem we have is that we have improved the squad but the team has stayed at the same level, a level which saw us finish outside of any European places last year.
Say what you will about the ****house Mancs and the money they've spent but they've plugged the big holes in their squad with quality. Now I dont expect us to spend as much as they have, but surely there are some players out there that are attainable for the first team, especially with us having a positive net spend.
I'm all for doing it the 'right' way, but we need some big players. The times they are a changin'.

I don't have any belief in them as a team. I love Liverpool football club of course I do, that will never change but I have zero belief in them being able to do it when it matters.Originally posted by G View PostWe didn't start playing until after Christmas that year so all is not lost. I clearly approach and have a different mentality to you when it comes to life mate and I have nothing against that but be honest, can you see us beating teams every single weekend because I can't?
I've been around too long G as I'm sure you have, I've seen the same abject failure nearly every year apart from 2005 and the odd Cup win. I am not going to give a false belief, I need to feel that confidence in the team or anything else in life for it to work and I just don't feel it with us. It's more hope than anything, perhaps if we go on a long run of wins that may change but it doesn't mean I don't support the team. I will never turn my back on them.
I wish I could feel the way you do about it but I cannot seeing use outscoring teams and breaking teams like Burnley down when it really matters on days like today.
