Wiji was ordinary but at least contributed to the equaliser. And he didn't give the ball away anywhere near as much as his 2 midfield partners.Originally posted by Lecter View PostThought Wijnaldum was terrible
Firmino played well and Lallana & Coutinho were ok
Rest were poor
Coutinho pissed me off before there goal when he tried to walk the ball into the net instead of taking the shot cause they went straight down the other end & scored. He did ok considering he played 65 mins midweek. Lallana does better when played deeper but always gives his all.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I think he gives the ball away loads and he's slow also in and out of possession and I don't think he's that strong either

He just keeps things ticking over usually & flies beneath the radar imo. I'd like to see him contribute more goals when he plays the more advanced role of the 3 but that will come. Hendo is slow in & out of possession imo. He rarely plays it first time & often needs two or three touches to get the ball out from under his feet.Originally posted by Lecter View PostYeah Wijnaldum did contribute for the goal

Hoping for a bounce back against Southampton this week.Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I vaguely remember a game when Rafa was manager. I can't recall who we were playing but it was guaranteed park the bus opposition. After the game which we won comfortably, he said something like "we knew what they would be like so we let them have the ball so we could play on the break". I wondered at the time if he was bull****ting but actually it makes sense, especially as we had the strength at the back to win the ball back via Hamman, Sami, Carra etc.

See I think keeping things ticking over / recycling possession is sometimes a problem because you get stuck in that tempo and it's hard to move out of itOriginally posted by SB View PostHe just keeps things ticking over usually & flies beneath the radar imo. Henderson is much quicker than Wijnaldum on and off the ball. He didn't have a good day today thoughBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Under Rafa we could easily cope with long balls and 2nd balls. Carra & Hyypia at the back and dealing with long balls with Hamann, Alonso, Sissons, Mascherano picking up 2nd ballsOriginally posted by Cormack74 View PostI vaguely remember a game when Rafa was manager. If this side had a Mascherano or a Hamann we would be much more solidBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

You see I don't see an awful lot between the two and that's not only todayOriginally posted by Fredo View PostHe was okay. Can was terrible.
Both slow, both give the ball away in daft positions and both have a propensity to play it side waysBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Can can't even play it sideways.Originally posted by Lecter View PostYou see I don't see an awful lot between the two and that's not only today

There's nothing wrong with being conservative in possession as long as you keep the ball and keep the tempo of our play. Wijnaldum does it well. Are we winning?

I know you are a fan I am not
If I remember rightly you were a fan of Joe Allen also so that's probably why you like Wijnaldum (there's a similarity for me)
One thing I do like about Wijnaldum is some of the positions he takes up but he's slow and too conservative more often than not
The thing about many of our midfielders is that when it's going well and it's all easy they all look good but in football you really only find out about people when the going is tough and you have to fight and scrap or do something different. None of our midfielders do well when the going is tough. In and out of possessionBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. Yep, I like Joe and that type of player. They keep the ball and they do that with the minimum amount of fuss. I think it's a hard position as you need to always be aware of what's around you and who's available.Originally posted by Lecter View PostDisagree about Wijnaldum

I think we need a complement of players with different skills. Llallana in midfield gives us that impetus and directness that Can cannot give us as he is poor in possession.
We are not far off and I trust Klopp to rectify that in the summer. Are we winning?

You do need a compliment of players. That's why I keep harping about a specialised holding defensive player to counteract some of the tactics that stifle usOriginally posted by Fredo View PostYep, I like Joe and that type of player. IMO you need the Wijnaldums/Allen when the games won to see out the game, they are not going to win you games like today
The possession stuff gets on my nerves. Its Rodgers nonsense. I prefer the Jimmy Case old LFC method of having the ball not for possessions sake but because without the ball you can't score
Klopp has improved us but imo we are not as far along as many thought
