I think we have significant issues with 'closing down games'. Firstly our defensive style is a kinetic/dynamic one. We don't have a traditional string defence used to absorbing pressure close to goal. Secondly in terms of midfield personnel. I don't think we really have the players to do it - we have high energy, runners and dynamic creative players but no one really suited to dictating the tempo of a game.
If we don't want to change our style (I don't see any sign of Klopp doing that) then at least we need two more mobile options in midfield to ensure our energy doesn't drop (Can and Grujic haven't been reliable as starters or from the bench this season).
I don't believe it is a failure of leadership in any fundamental way.
