We’ve no idea that this is the case though.Originally posted by Cerbie View PostHe didnÂ’t need to go public with his under the bus comments and sensationalism to get a January move. If he had been an adult about it rather than throwing his toys out of the pram we may have been able to sell him at a premium to Saudi in January.
Now they know he wants away, they are probably going to low ball us.
ThatÂ’s on Salah. He is a legend but this is selfish, egotistical behaviour.
For all the criticism of him for going through the media, that doesn’t mean that his side of the story isn’t true.
Ie. He signed an extension in good faith with the club assuring that him he remained a key part of their plans (‘broken promises’), passing up a lucrative free transfer and control of his future in doing so.
When in reality the club’s intention was to use it to cash in asap (‘someone doesn’t want me at the club’).
That appears to be what he was insinuating, and for me it’s totally feasible..

Even if that was the case, he has a complete lack of self awareness if he thinks his current form warrants a starting place or guaranteed minutes off the bench.Originally posted by Mark79 View PostWe’ve no idea that this is the case though.

I think his belief is that his contribution over 8 years should have earned him a bit more grace for his current form. And you couldn’t blame him for that when he’s seeing other under performers retain their regular starts (before anyone says Gakpo, Mac Allister, etc - they’ve been rotated, they haven’t been benched for 3 games running).Originally posted by Cerbie View PostEven if that was the case, he has a complete lack of self awareness if he thinks his current form warrants a starting place or guaranteed minutes off the bench.
Arguments over that aside, he’d still have every reason to feel aggrieved about the club manoeuvring to sell him part.Last edited by Mark79; 09-12-25, 10:51 PM..

Yeah I’d agree that’s probably what he was thinking. It’s just how you go about it. You don’t go to the press. You go and speak to the manager and the club.Originally posted by Mark79 View PostI think his belief is that his contribution over 8 years should have earned him a bit more grace for his current form. It was only 3 games.
Ironically he’d probably have played tonight if he’d kept quiet.Modifying post.

That’s fair enough, but it just brings us back to the point of contention that others have also been passengers and some have been outright liabilities.Originally posted by Scratch View PostYou say past for should get him a period of grace. I would say he had 7 or 8 games grace, where he was just a passenger and we had to play a man down almost. A great player for us, but time and tide waits for no man and Mo was starting to look like it had caught up to him.
Salah was actually back to being our biggest creator of chances just before he got dropped..

Trouble is, if others see one of the 'leaders' just not pulling their weight, but getting picked every game, it can have a negative impact on the players. The past few games, without Mo, we've shown a lot more effort defensively and I hope it is the start of something, but we will see.Originally posted by Mark79 View PostThat’s fair enough, but it just brings us back to the point of contention that others have also been passengers and some have been outright liabilities.
