Tough question, i'm not against selling him if there is no chance he will sign a new contract, especially if we can get the replacement Klopp wants this summer...offsetting some of the cost would mean we don't risk missing out on the midfielder we are after next summer as we wouldn't need to worry about bring in another 1st choice forward...

The highlighted bits are what I was thinking about.
I'm very much on the fence.
If he stayed, banged in the goals and worked his arse off to go out ona silverware winning high, then I would love it and wish him well when he left. I'm also assuming with my original wuestion thart there is zero chance of him extending his contract.
However if a big offer came in that suited the club and Salah wanted that move, then I think I would take it as long as we got in a player with the funds that Klopp wanted and that he thought was good enough to go straight into the first team.
Maybe the Salah money would bring in one player, maybe it cold even bring in two (or be close to the price of two) slightly under the radar players that Klopp thought could have an immediate impact.
One way keeps an amazing player with us for another 12 months, the other gives Klopp a chance to maybe accelerate the evolution of the team as he sees fit.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Actually what was also in my head was the scenario of Salah running down his contract and then trying to re sign with us as a free agent.
Maybe not getting quite the wage he was looking for, but commanding a massive sign on fee as a free agent.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I’d prefer we can negotiate a new contract, but if it comes to it I don’t mind if he leaves on a free.
His guaranteed 30 goals and 15 assists are invaluable. We’ve already got to hope Diaz and Darwin can cover the 20 plus that Mane scores. To lose both Salah and Mane in the same summer would be a massive gamble both in their prime.Modifying post.

We are probably going to lose both of them and Firmino in the same 12 month perod regardless.
We also have Naby in the final 12 months of his contract too.
So whether this summer or next summer, we have that big change and big gamble coming up.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

He’s only 30.
I think people over estimate how easy it will be to replace the number of goals and assists he provided.
Don't think anyone overestimates how important he is, or rather I hope they do not as he is a genuine world class player who racks up goals and assists regardless of how the rest of the team is doing around him.
However I think the chances of an agreement is slim now. My guess is his mind is made up, maybe similar to how Mane's was, and that he is comfortable with the fact he is off.
Think the only unknown is where he ends up. Will he sign a pre contract in January with a club outside of the PL or will it be radio silence on where he is going until next season ends and he goes to a PL club next summer.
Ideal world would be one in which he is with us for another three years as I think he is one of those players that will stay at close to peak levels of output well into his 30s.
As for replacing his goals and assists, well that's something we will have to face at some point no matter what. Same applied to Suarez, Torres, Fowler and any other name that could be thrown out there.
Maybe we get lucky and find a player that gives us 75% or better of what Salah gives us in G+A every season. Maybe we find two players who between them replace Salah's G+A output. Maybe we instead find the new Pennant
I have a sneaky feeling we already have brought in the guy we want to replace Salah's goals in Nunez and Diaz is there to replace Mane.
Our next RW will be on top of those imo.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Agreed but there's no way he'll compromise his earning capacity by being sold. Regardless of what the club wants to do, he's going to refuse to move now. It's just not in his game plan. He's a silly boy, he'll send himself in to the realms of Torres if he runs his contract down, IMOOriginally posted by ronanm View PostI would sell him. I don't care if he would score goals but don't like how he makes out he's just going to run down the contract and leave for a freeLast edited by Norbs; 25-06-22, 01:57 PM.

Salad at his peak would certainly be worth keeping for the final year of his contract even if he wanted to leave on a free.
My worry is that his last 6 months have been a massive dissapointment given his usual high standard.
Will he recover his best form. Will he be coasting and saving himself for Egypt and Madrid.
Maybe better to sell and get a decent replacement now.
Bowen looks decent. Or maybe Raphina

I think we would have done that by now.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostOr we hopefully find an agreement with Salah.

He's going to be a massive free transfer for someone if/when he runs his contract down.
No way we'd refuse £60-70m on him if we got that this summer - which we won't. Not even up for debate, look at the lowball offer we took for Mane.

That's where I am.Originally posted by BG1973 View PostI'd only consider it if we had a young target to bring in. Would then see next year as transition year, with the following season another big one with the forwards all established.
That is probably a better long term strategy for me.
