Salah is a machine, I don’t think age or fitness are an issue just now. From what he has said there have been no talks, so no discussion yet about what he’d be willing to accept.

I guess we just watch this space. I can see a 2 year extension happening.

I think he wants to beat every record he can with us (if there are any left he doesn’t have). He looks totally reinvigorated since last year. Of our seven goals this season he has had involvement in 6. That is elite.

Madness imho not to give him a one year contract at least, one of our best ever players and a great influence / asset to the squad.

Trouble is, once he's on big or bigger wages, and another year or two older, then there is less chance of getting the massive money for him.

He doesn't do interviews often but when he does, he's extremely careful about what he says. There's nothing unintentional about what he said.

Personally I question whether doing so at that exact time moment is the right thing to do. We've just won at Old Trafford with a massive team performance and this will inevitably overshadow it, and just cause more hassle for Slot in his own media interviews.
              Oh I don't know.

I really didn’t take it like that, he was being realistic and honest in what he said and didn’t come across as stirring the pot in the slightest.

You have to assume this is Edwards influence not offering contracts to older players like he did with Wijnaldum and wanted to do with Henderson etc. I get the club don't want to commit to long term high wage contracts but Salah and VVD have another couple of years in them at least, I'd be offering 2 years at least perhaps with the option of a third. Players will probably want higher wages club lower but surely there has to be middle ground to get these deals done, mad that negotiations haven't even started yet though we they could agree a transfer for next summer from January.

I'd rather he was fired up playing for a contract rather than just getting one. Don't see any need to do anything right now.

The problem with that is leaving the door open for other clubs to turn his head. If he was 28 we would still be saying he is an incredible player. Imho he didn’t enjoy the latter stages under Klopp, the tell tale signs were there, he is revitalised this season and thus far playing like the Mo a couple of years back.

Now the window is closed we need to get on with getting new contracts for these guys signed. I get that players drop off as they get older but in the case of Salah and VVD they are at least a couple of years from that being a problem unless their level drops like a stone or they get an injury. Sticking point is going to be wages

Though I don’t think it’s that unusual that things haven’t progressed. Since Jan we’ve known that Klopp and his staff were leaving. We’ve known Slot was coming in only since May, and then the Edwards Hughes etc team.

There’s still lots of time for all options to play out.

Don’t know if he’d take it but maybe a one year deal with the option of a second, or just a two year deal. That way he can stay on good money and the club isn’t tied down to him for too long on big wages. Everyone’s happy.

I don't really seem the change in manager being that big an issue from the club side, surely almost any manager in the world would want Salah and VVD and if they didn't the club would be unlikely to bring them in as the new manager given the way the club seem to want to operate. Player side is perhaps a bit different, they obviously might not like the way the new manager plays or there be a clash of personalities etc but if they haven't had any contact from the club that obviously isn't in play.

The TAA situation is perhaps different on both sides having taken up a new role in the double pivot he might have wanted reassurance that he wasn't going back to being a regular full back. But also from the club’s point of view he is potentially the most salable asset so letting his contract run down is a different situation
