If he has to sign a pre contract with, say, City in January derailing our season meaning we don’t win the league?

Ludicrous that we’ve let contracts run so far with all three players. If we didn’t want to sign new contracts we w’shoukd have sold them last summer.

Whether any of them renew though, we have a great chance of the PL which wouldn't have been the case if we'd sold them. And we may not have got CL qualification either etc.

Couple of yrs ago must have been conversations about klopp remaining time and strategy for winning trophies in that time. Selling 3 key players because they might not resign later down the line may not have seemed worth it. Esp with the midfield rebuild focus.

As for thia summer just gone, we'd have got fraction of their value so absolutely not worth selling then imo.

We are where we are, very strong team at the right time. If they move on in the summer so do we.

Terrible take. Combining a new manager with selling them three would have been completely insane and self destructive, when the need for consistency was greater than ever.

I think the big issue is that there are three of them, all looking at each other waiting for one to blink. I bet they all feel like they should be the highest earner and nobody wants to commit to a number and see the others get more days later.

Isn’t it only foreign clubs he can pre-contract with in this window?
            Hello mert.

You may be right, but just don’t buy into the narrative this is all on Salah.

Even from a personal POV, he has a wife, young kids, has expressed a desire to stay, is more than delivering on the pitch. To be 6 months away from potentially moving to a new country when you don’t want to. It’s not ideal for sure but I believe common ground will be found. Even on his currently salary £14m pa in the world of elite football doesn’t seem like a massive gamble.

2 year deal with option on further year extension. I reckon it’s done in December. Same for Virgil.

Harder to say what’s happening with Trent.

It’s a multi million dollar global business with three high value assets, there is a degree of responsibility. The club should be able to cope with multiple eventualities and contingencies. The managerial change is mitigation for sure - but that’s hardly the fault of any of the three players? I don’t really believe a blame culture has to exist here, seems as ever (in modern life) that we have to choose sides.

There’s a lot at stake, and there must be nervousness from the player that a solution might not be reached, hence his statement yesterday.

I’d be astonished if VVD and Salah don’t extend.

100% agreed with this balanced view, it's rarely so black & white as people would like

Everyone is guessing about what is going on - what's clear is there's a mutual desire to sign a deal, beyond that who knows

Whether Salah stays or goes, he will not move anywhere he does not want to go to imo.

For me it is simple . 2+1 on his current salary for VVD and 2 on his current salary for Salah. That said, what seems simple tends to unravel when hit by the real world.

Not so sure I would offer pay rises on the basic wage though if that is what was being looked for. Maybe offer improved terms on the add ons for goals/assists/wins/clean sheets etc.

I suppose another way to look at it is that Salah, with any add ons included, would be costing about 20m a year so a 2+1 would be tying up to 60m in a guy when the club might be thinking they could get a younger player they think might be about to come could for that same amount (maybe 20m for a four year contract and 40m or so towards whatever the transfer fee was).

Either way the 60m could go a long way towards buying a new player and towards his wages over 4 to 5 seasons.

Small matter of that player needing to bring what the team needs as a whole to improve of course though when Salah does finally leave us I don't think we will be trying to replace him dierectly as that would be nigh on impossible, but rather try to make up his numbers by improving a couple of positions.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Exactly, it's all semantics & common sense. Salah knows it's all downhill after Liverpool when he sees what happened to those who left & probably frightened by that. Party politics are being played here so patience is key here with the club but you don't **** where you eat!!
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

Also worth pointing out that De Bryune's contract runs out at the end of the season..

And he's said on the weekend that he doesn't want to talk about it now, but that Guardiola re-signing is a positive step

All 3 of them could also have a stipulation for being equal top earner at club. So as soon as one signs the others will hopefully follow.

If that were the case, though I doubt it is, they can get tae ****.

Top earners at a club need to be the ones that are performing to the highest levels almost all the time.

You could make an arguement that two out of our three have been doing that over the past season or two but not for all three.

Ali would be the guy needing to be added to any top earner list if we go by actual sustained form.
