We all know that he can't defend, that's hardly rocket science. What exactly did he do wrong last night though?

He had a good game, not just offensively.

Don't think he was mentioned in the summer re the DCM centre we need but he wouldn't as we're all conditioned to ignore players over 26.
        quality DM he is

Imagine the battering one of our players would get if they did this.

Yes to be honest if we'd conceded that goal I think we'd have all been fuming again.

Failure to get goalside of his man for first goal for a start

This is basic fullback stuff, hes 5 yards away from the man when the ball goes out wide but still doesnt get goal side

                Thats schoolboy stuff

Yup, he also had his obligatory crazy tackle per game (whilst already on a yellow) but thankfully he missed the ball and the man so he couldn't be booked.

As has been said he doesn't have the intelligence to be a first team left back. Not even close. During the match some suggested he could be an option further forward but I'm not sure he would be as effective going forward as full backs usually benefit from vast areas of space in front of them to run into.

Looking at the clip above, I don't reckon it was a FK.

This one gives a glimpse of the better angle that I think shows he stands on the guy's foot before getting his foot around the ball.

I'm still fuming over that horrendous defending last night. Everyone bar the front 3 were garbage. Although Karius was quite positive.

I don't really know what to say that hasn't been said before, yes we can consider ourselves to be unlucky (if we had scored the penalty we would have won), but the defending was poor again, the first goal WTF? The defence isn't good enough, yes they were let down by the midfield (again) and we need a real DM in the team or at the very least in the squad, but the defending is schoolboy.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

A defensive midfielder would have been wasted last night - they only had 3 shots on goal.

No, better defending and taking our chances was what was needed.

I was thinking about that. Did they only create three chances because Hendo, Can and Wijnaldum were on fire or because they really only had to create three chances for every 2 goals? Certainly didn't appear to be the former.

I can't help feeling that if Sevilla, because of the quality of their football, had decided to create 5 or 6 chances in the whole game we would have lost. Simply because our defenders are walking brain farts and our midfield woefully out of form to help out. Or Plan A as they are called at Anfield.
                                One tit for another.
