From the BBC, N'Zonzi made 96.3% of his 82 passes and won the ball back 12 times.

Don't think he was mentioned in the summer re the DCM centre we need but he wouldn't as we're all conditioned to ignore players over 26.

Fairy rare for a player to hit the post taking a pen, so I think that's pretty unlucky

Frustrating, but not the cluster**** it seems to be based on this thread
The reaction wasn't based on last night but the continued theme of individual defensive mistakes. The result in a way is a bit of a free hit really being the first game.

Keeping a clean sheet is a fundamental ploy in Europe, especially in the KO rounds. We can't and won't be able to go far playing last night's defense in the CL.

Anyone think if we are going to play Moreno , then we need Milner as right back for his no nonsense style and to give some balance

I thought he done very well last season as left back and being his natural side should be easy for him to play there.

I know he's young but I have concerns about Gomez. Looks a walking yellow card and potential red every game...gives silly fouls away in bad areas.

If Matip gets injured we're ****ed. It's unbelievably frustrating to have our world class attacking play undermined by a dog**** defence.

            Thats the thing for me

For years under we have been ****e at defending and have been desperately in need of proper defensive / holding midfielder

This isnt knee jerk the same thing has been said over and over, every season for almost the last 5 years

I don't think there's much we can do now regarding the defensive options. I'll just be happy for Lovren and Matip to stay fit till Jan so Klavan is not starting.

One other thing that was quite apparent last night was how silky smooth Seville were in possession and how they were able to pick out the right passes. I thought we were really wasteful sometimes and the quick turn around in possession definitely doesn't help what is already a shaky defence.

So I think any blame can also be labelled to all areas of the pitch.

Also, you just never felt we had the physical presence to upset their defence in the final stages to get the winner. We might as well not bother with corners

it looked like we just gave up with corners and took them short until we had a few at the end which coutinho floated over everyones heads

It's especially irritating that we didn't address it while we had CL qualification. There's a very good chance we won't be in it next season and we'll have written off the added opportunity of this season because of an issue everybody knew about in advance.

                    Why not?

We definitely have a stronger squad than last season (caveats re we have the same defensive weaknesses) where we finished fourth. I think its going to be a massive battle for top 4, but writing it off this early is pretty defeatist.

We've lost to one of the strongest teams in the league and drawn at home to the biggest competitor in the CL group stage for us.

To put some perspective on our potential, Hoffenheim, who we beat home and away defeated Bayern Munich 2-0 at home at the weekend.

We have issues for sure, frustrating ones, but its too early to throw in the towel.

The thing is though Buzzo how many times have we had THAT performance. I'm pretty sure I've seen that exact same game so many times now.
                      • Concede **** goal from defensive howler
                      • Lovren culpable
                      • Dominate and get into the lead
                      • Miss a hatful of good chances
                      • Anxiety in the crowd speads as we haven't put the game to bed
                      • A late (ish) goal poor conceded to equalise
                      • Almost throw away a point with **** defending - individual error again
                      • Dominate on chances yet not win

Our attack is insanely good but they are not prolific - they do miss a number of chances with Salah seeming to miss a few. They cannot score enough goals to mask over the constant **** ups in defence.

It is not over reaction in isolation - WE HAVE SEEN THIS SOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY TIMES NOW.

Not aimed at you and I am a massive Klopp fan. I don't blame the system as much as others - I blame the personnel, I can't fathom how they thought VVD was the only CB in the entire world better than Lovren. I am so sick of him - if he was **** and never said a word off the pitch it wouldn't bother me as much. It is the fact he bigs himself up, posts videos of himself with bull**** like - be stronger, be better blah blah blah. I ****ing despair

No I get all that, and I am not saying its not frustrating, but I don't think the whole season is ****ed. ... I'm not saying we will win the CL either.

I'd say 9 times out of 10 we win the game yesterday. The frustration is in the fact we occasionally find the 1/10 performance.

I think we are closer to being a great team than we are a **** one.

i feel attacking wise we are going to smash some teams this year 6 or 7 when it all clicks

It is just the games when we don't finish the opposition off we all notice the midfielders give the ball away , the defenders start fannying around at the back with it ,

In the first half we get the ball to the front three quickly they could not live with us.

I haven't seen the highlights of either Man City or Chelsea's game but I bet they scored a couple of their goals from set-pieces.

It's all well and good scoring from open play, but you need to have that aerial threat too to really possess an all round nuisance.

Wouldn't surprise me if opposing teams were instructed to give corners away rather than take any risks as we're powder puff with them.
