I’ve seen a reasonable amount of Valencia this season and Mama is miles below Ali’s level. Plays in a **** team to be fair to him but I don’t see any sort of situation where he’s number one all the time Ali is here unless there’s a major drop off or injuries knacker him.

Same applies to the vast majority of top keepers in the game today though.


Think we have not bought Mamardashvili to be better now than Alisson, but rather than he will arrive being more than good enough to be a number one keeper at Liverpool (assuming Alisson might fancy a move away next summer or the summer after) with the potential to become a world class level keeper sooner rather than later.

For me he has shown enough to suggest that he may well have the tools to become an Alisson or Oblak/Courtois level keeper ( maybe more the latter (Courtois) in terms of keeping style) by the time he hits 26 or 27. What he does seem to have is the same unshakeable confidence that Alisson has in that a mistake does not phase him and that he can go long periods of play without touching the ball but be fuly switched on when needed.
