Liverpool vs Fulham - Premier League (18/19 - Game 12)
Not at this stage last season we weren’t. We didn’t hit our best until November and then really only started blowing teams away in Jan.
City have skewed the norm unfortunately and they are making our ridiculously good start seem just ok. I know what you are saying but any chance we get to eat into their GD advantage needs to be taken.
I think this poster is spot on especially with the bit in bold
Last season in games where we had greater than 65% possession our win record was very low, I can't find the stat, but I recall it was less than 20%. This year in those games, we have a 100% win record (in the EPL).
That's an important improvement.
Additionally more and more teams are aware of the high press and risk of turning the ball over in bad positions, and their coaches are taking measures to prevent that. We aren't a surprise anymore and what we were doing was not rocket science. So I feel that we may not see that type of heavy metal football anymore because the conditions aren't there so much for it to happen. Whats happening is many (including me) are forgetting those 0-0's and 0-1's where we couldn't beat the parked bus, but remembering the 4-1's and 4-2's where we ripped up poorly set-up teams.

That all makes sense. Where is it from?
Additionally I think last season we were lucky to have so many players in form at the same time - inevitably some wouldn't be this season, but given we have better depth, again it is likely that at least one (attacking) player will be.
For me Shaqiri should get more starts because he's the lad in form now and is obviously desperate to cement a starting position. I wish he wouldn't try the shot so often and I don't think he starts when everyone is fit and in form, but right now we should be using his enthusiasm to create chances/shots/goals/make stuff happen.

It is true. I think buzzo posted that we were nissing Phil. But if you go back to some games like today's. Phil was missing in many of them although that admittedly was before the front three went onto another level.
The RAWK post is true to a certain extent but we are not playing as well as we can, it's pretty obvious. What I would say is that we are hard to beat. City though are just demolishing teams. There are not many fixtures that you could say teams might take points off them, the just steam roll sides and have quality everywhere. They are favorites to win the league and rightly so.
Agreed City are odds on favourite at the moment but there's nothing like sustained pressure to create tension. I'm over the moon with 30 points after 12 games regardless of whether we win the league. Is this our best start ever in 30 odd years?
I dont agree with the theory that teams have become used to our attacking style and we have to change to something different. Plenty of teams in every league do nothing but attack. The difference with them is they have players that can do a little something extra when it comes to teams defending deep and compact. Headers from crosses, quick counter attacks now and then, and even the delicious long shot. We dont do those too often. I remember a barcelona match a while back where the other team wouldnt let them dribble the ball near the box. They started taking pot shots from distance for a while. Got their goal, other team opened up and they went straight at them. What we need is a couple really good midfielders. Losing Coutinho was a big loss in quality.
Our attacking players haven't really got going, yes they have got a decent goal return but they aren't playing close to the level they were playing at regularly last year.
To a lesser extent the same applies to the midfield we haven't really got this area figured out yet. I think that by now most of us were expecting Keita and Fabinho to have been playing more and both be settling into the side at the moment, that hasn't really happened yet. Our best 3 midfielders have probably been Milner, Wijnaldum and Shaqiri I don't think that any of us would have predicted that at the start of the season.
I think that the improvement in our position is all down to the improvement in the defence and GK.
Hopefully this is our bad patch, we are playing badly but getting results, lets hope that City have a bad patch and it sees them drop points. They are undoubtedly the favourites but if we can keep the pressure on them you never know what can happen at the end of the season.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
