I see Solano is playing right back today for Newcastle. I rate him and competition in both right sided positions would be nice - so I'm going to add him to this highly speculative list.

I can see what you are saying: he was excellent a few years ago, now he would be just a stop gap, but i still like him.

Out of that list I like Richards, Baines and maybe maybe ONeill. Barton is ok, but a bit of an arse it sounds like.

Richards would cost a fortune now, Baines would be ok, but maybe not that much better than Riise. ONeill would just be a Zenden upgrade, so might not be worth splashing cash on that.

With Momo and Xabi now out, we are looking very thin in the middle of the park, but I think that is more of a perfect opportunity to give some young lads the opportunity than to waste 5 millions on another squadie.

Robben, seeing as he's our favourite winger.

The danger of an attcking fullback in a side with other weaknesses (particularly in the wide midfield area) is that you never get the most out of them and so in effect you have only got a second rate player anyway.

If Pennant and Gonzales come good then I think that Alves will be our number one priority but otherwise i think we will be priced out (assuming he even wants to come to us).

The fact is we need class players. I'd say through the middle of the team - we're well stocked - but out wide - I can't think of one player in the squad with the possible exceptions of JAR & Luis (?) who I would consider 'class'. Buying Alves would have solved two problems : a full back who gets forward naturally and secondly quality service from the wide area's to our front men. Factor in a couple of goals from Alves (as he's akin to do) and the £12m asked for him sounds good business to me.
The Pennant deal could apparently rise to £8m which about £5m too much IMO; we'll sell him on when he fails for less than half of what we paid - you just watch.......

We paid far too much for Pennant.

I think Alves will cost more like £15m+ now, with Sevilles success. I do really want him to come, I guess I have just given up hope now. It is odd to think though that I can't think of another right back who comes into his class. I guess that would be the reason why we should pay the money. In the end I'm gradually converted to your view (if we have the money and he wants to come ).

The thing is I agree with your assessment of our wide players - we need more quality (or at least those with potential - Pennat & Gonzalez to step up). I'm not sure we will get the most out of our money by buying one good right back.

I have seen a few posts about micah richards but we have no chance of signing him, we couldnt afford him and chelsea want him and have tried to sign him already.

Duff, Bridge, SWP, Parker, Cole J etc, etc will all be a lesson to Micah, and any other young player from these shores.

Hi fellas. From what I've seen Ashley Young is a player that looks to have massive potential and he really is a goal creator & goal getter from midfield. I know he's being touted around the Arse at the moment, but anyone think we might be in the running? I know he's not the DM we probably need at the moment but still the guys awsome.
