I think Klopp's selection policy in the FA Cup is very interesting. Its as if the thinking is "if we progress then fine, if not then its been some valuable learning for the kids"

Considering that we are on the brink of winning the league, there has been no let-up whatsoever in the PL games. He will continue to pick our best possible 11 for each PL match.

To me this suggests that we are going for it big-time in terms of records. I bet that behind the scenes the players and management know that this is they're opportunity to break all records. Not just winning the PL, but aiming for Man City's 101 points record, as well a Arsenal's 49 unbeaten games.

I know im sounding greedy now after years of title famine, but in the words of Keegan "I would love it, love it if we beat those records". that would really stick it to all of the taunts we've had to endure from rivals over the past 30 years.

Im 41 now and its been way too long. Let the good times roll.

Disagree with regards to your comments on records. We hear continually from Jurgen, staff and players, its ALL about the next game

Funny how it isn't when the next game is a domestic cup though, eh?

There's a public face, and more than one private face in terms of our objectives

For me, it's possible he wants those records but first and foremost he will be aware this league is FAR from done and that alone is enough to account for his decisions

Take it with a pinch of salt with what you hear in interviews. That is standard stuff that all managers roll out year after year.

Its a bit like whenever a player or Jurgen get asked about the title, the standard response will be "We're not thinking about the title, just the next game". The reporter will then probe and ask "surely you've discussed it as a team - your 13 points clear", and again the standard response will be "we never discuss this, lets see where we at the end of season".

All very professional, i get it. But surely privately they know what an opportunity they have to break all records.

I would have thought it's all about the EPL trophy. If by some miracle we have it sewn up by March, I suspect he would prioritise progress in the CL over EPL records.

There's obviously public and private faces. Regardless of how well we have done to date, there will be "pressure" building up within the camp. Its how they deal with the level of expectation going forward. The simplest way to do this is to forget what is now in the past. Focus on the present (next game), this is the only thing we can affect the outcome of... The future becomes the present in the next game.

The time to be focused on records (if there are any) is when the last game of the season is finished. There is a huge focus on our home record run (with the exception of the joke cup), with continual pressure from the media and pundits. Its there, its real, but its history. The message from within (Jurgen) is to create your own history, not records. It doesnt matter how you win, how many you win by, if you went unbeaten.....its of little consequence

Aye, he's broken a few records so far and has looked genuinely surprised when told by journalists. I doubt he cares too much about them.

I'm also certain he wouldn't prioritise any record over a trophy (FA Cup).
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

As I say that's all very true but is about what Jurgen presents, post was about what he wants and is thinking about himself, i.e. internally.

                      That said...

He wants the league and knows we're still a very long way from the finishing line. Domestic cup selections have been about that, not looking at cherries on top like records. Thinking about records when we haven't remotely sealed the deal on what we've wanted for decades is foolish.

if we did have the league won and were still in the FA Cup and CL at that time, then surely these will become the new priorities.

The Arsenal 49 game unbeaten record was brilliant but as a fan surely Mancs treble would have been better. Without a doubt. And considering that we already have the Euro Super Cup and World Club Cup this season, then just imagine the photo with all of the trophies in June!!!

However, at the start of the season I would have went out of every cup at the first hurdle if it meant that we were league champions. Will be immense when we do it.

I never thought about the photo!

Can you imagine 5 cups? Bloody hell...

of course Klopp and players want those records but yeah hardly going to say in a tv interview. If we don't get them and still win the league... nobody will care. We just need to win the thing.
