I reckon he'll get a few starts this season, especially at Anfield against the bus parkers. He's an outstanding prospect who should only get better. But he's 18, so cannot give us 40 games. Klopp will know how to use him. I like his swagger. Touch of Kenny about him at times and (helmet on) Rooney.

He was the best young player in the Championship last season with 7 goals and 11 assists as a 17 year old. That is better than Bellingham, Maddison etc who went for massive money and hype. I think if he played for Blackburn you’d be looking at £30m to buy him given his potential.Originally posted by Slinky Skills View PostPeople are getting carried away a bit here don't you think? He's only played a few pre-season games and that's it, I'd like to see how he fares in some proper PL games before deciding if he's any good or not. Appreciate he may have played well yesterday but he needs a lot more top flight experience.
We do tend to overhype but he looks like the Sterling, Jones, Trent bracket as opposed to the Flanagan, Ibe, Spearing one. Another big thing is he and his family are huge reds - that makes a difference

I expect Fabinho, Hendo + 1 vs Norwich - maybe Naby or Thiago depending on fitness

Elliot is a huge talent but he won't be a first team regular. Jones who is also a talent got more mins last season because of our injury crisis. As soon as our mids got some fitness back Jones was whipped out of the team. Elliot may get a few mins here and there but I'd like to see him loaned out to a prem club this season.

Naby 100% starts imo. Think Norwich comes a bit too quickly for Hendo and Thiago.Originally posted by Irishnev View Post

I wouldn't be so sure, I think he will get a chance to be part ofa rotated midfield if all goes to plan and then it's up to him.Originally posted by danperkins View PostElliot is a huge talent but he won't be a first team regular. He's already accomplished more before 1st team debut than Trent or Jones got theirs.
Jones was whipped out of the side when the others came back because we had been in terrible form and as nice as his play looked at times, it wasn't that effective.
Gini would be a nailed on starter and he's gone. Only Fabinho and Henderson when fit are pretty much nailed on now.
Elliots style brings something different to the midfield 3. Of course he could get a chance and not perform and then end up with very little game time in which case maybe a loan in the new year would make sense.
I wouldn't loan him out to another prem side unless they were somewhat similar in style of play and mid table at least. If he's kept at Liverpool, the club can control under which circumstances he gets experience and always playing our way. Going to a club in the second half of the table won't do him any good nor would a team that sets up to constantly hit on the counter.Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

Think at some point he may move to a more central and more advanced position. Think maybe as a forward or as a second/support striker.
Basing this on watching a bit of him on loan last season and the pre season this summer so admittedly a small sample of games.
But he reminds of three players a hell of a lot in how he moves, in how he shields the ball, in how he can receive the ball with his back to the opposition and then turn on the ball, and most of all with his positioning.
The thee lads he reminds me a lot of are Joao Felix, Francisco Trincao (now at Wolves for a season) and my lad Lautaro Martinez.
He is younger than those three and is shorter/less built than them, but stylistically he is very similar to them, Felix in particular.
Now those three have played against much better teams in their careers to date and as such there is more to go on so that they can be judged both visually and statistically, but there is something about Elliot in this fledgling stage of his career that is very reminiscent of those players.
Now Elliot is still very very young and still to lay a competitive game at te highest level, so is going to be interesting to see how he does if he gets a string of cameos in the PL early on in the season or even if we can loan him to a PL team that will play him in a decent number of games.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I’m not so sure about that, his contribution stats were really impressive for someone so young - I think Klopp was just protecting him as much as he could.Originally posted by Corndog View PostI wouldn't be so sure, I think he will get a chance to be part ofa rotated midfield if all goes to plan and then it's up to him.

The 20-year-old was 5th in the Premier League for carrying the ball per 90 last season. He was 6th for carrying it at least five yards forward and 5th for carrying the ball into the final third.
Jones also made the 8th-most passes into the final third per game. It’s all quite remarkable for a young player in his first full season.
So it stands out to us that Jones is on par with the likes of Phil Foden, Jordan Henderson and Mason Mount in the xT metric. He’s only marginally behind Thiago and Sadio Mane.
But it looks better the more advanced you get. The Athletic posted stats for ‘medium actions’, which is a way of eliminating those who merely do lots of little passes or carries.
This focus on those who consistently do above average progressive actions. Jones sits 14th in the league, tucked between Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan.
The last chart they looked at was who adds the most xT. Or to put it another way, which players consistently unlock opposition defences and perform actions that get teammates into dangerous positions?
Think of a pass that finds an overlapping full-back who can then put in a better cross. Or a dribble that takes a defender out of a game and suddenly puts the striker in a strong position to score.
Kevin De Bruyne tops this one, to absolutely no surprise. Martin Odegaard is second, with Bruno Fernandes third. Then it’s Rodri, Thiago and Jones.
So, sixth for the Scouser and he’s not far behind the others
Jones averaged 2.82 shot-creating actions per 90 last season, which ranked him in the 84th percentile for midfielders in the Premier League according to FBRef. Among Liverpool's midfielders last season, only Thiago ranked higher: with 2.96 per 90
Liverpool vs Bologna fixture could be perfect transfer scouting opportunity for Jürgen Kloppliverpool
Jones also ranked the highest for assists per 90 out of Liverpool's central midfield players, and averaged the most progressive carries forward per 90, with 10.
When it comes to taking shots on goal, Jones' average of 42% on target was also the highest out of Liverpool's midfield options.
Under Klopp, Jones has had to adapt to a more box-to-box role where he has been asked to take on defensive duties.
And he has grown into that role too.
Jones averaged more pressures and made more tackles and interceptions per 90 than Georginio Wijnaldum last season and also had the best tackle win percentage rate out of any of Liverpool's midfield options — despite attempting more tackles per 90 than Jordan Henderson and Wijnaldum.Last edited by rudedog; 09-08-21, 10:38 AM.

Only two teams I would like to see him go to in the PL are Norwich or Brentford regardless of whether they end up being midtable or lower half. Both teams use attacking players well and have a bit of variety in their attacking play tactically. Both teams also like to use creative attacking players.
With the more established mid table PL teams there is more of a chance that he would be lost in the mix and not get as many minutes on the pitch imo.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I think it's clear he's going to more forward in the EPL, but he could do with toughening up and more experience of being in the thick of it. Could also be an emergency midfield option given our midfielder's predilection for picking up knocks.“I don’t think Harvey had ever played that position for us, but looked good,” said Klopp.
“We have a new midfielder in our squad in Harvey Elliott,” he added. “We have players who can make a big step. We are not blind. We see what others are doing. We just have to be able to beat them.
“Harvey can play different positions. In pre-season we wanted to see him in a deeper role and he’s made a big step in the pre-season.
