Hoever could slot in at CB and we have Chirivella and Kane in midfield who have had mins in the cup this season, which based on the likely squad makes them veterans I doubt that any of the senior players will stay behind. Probably have to go with a more defensive 4-5-1 or something to avoid a thrashing.

I would be a bit worried about what that might do to squad morale, taking the first team to play in the Club World Cup in Qatar and hopefully pick up a medal, while sending some of the fringe players or likely subs to play a carabao Cup tie in Birmingham

I suppose the only thing you could do is guarantee them the final should they make it. A first team game is a first team game, but it's definitely a weird one. I would want to leave Adrian to play for example, but if a goalkeeper is injured you would want a quality keeper coming on in the final, like the Chelsea situation.

Weird one, but the only solution really. If we're so far in the competition, you kind of want to win it, in spite of everything.

I don't think it would be an issue. Fringe players might prefer a guaranteed start and the chance to win a league cup medal.

For the fringe players the more games we have the better for them so they won't want us to get knocked out of the league cup, they are guaranteed two more games at least if they get through to the semis.
