Well as you know, im not the most optimistic poster but Gonzalez will be a usefull player and I think Rafa will use different pairs of left side players. Riise-Gonzalez, Aurelio-Riise, Riise-zenden, etc...

did you see those games as part of your claim that you've seen him a dozen times? if so, how can you not be impressed? particularly his performance against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu

during that game, he worked hard for 90 minutes and ended up scoring an equaliser earning a valueable point for his team. hardly 'zero end product' eh?

As I say, he's capable of moments of magic, hence my point that he'll likely bang one in the top corner from 30 yards after 10 woeful performances, much like Smicer did.

Real Sociedad might not be world beaters, but they are a decent enough La Liga Team, which he helped move them away from relegation - he also performed against some of the bigger Spanish teams.

My worry is that he is starting to believe his own hype and that he'll try too hard, mess things up and then the pressure starts getting to him. Much better if he starts on the bench and is slowly introduced into games, probably at Anfield, and preferrable when we are winning comfortably.

in spain he scored something like 5 goals in 9 appearences

only someone as negative as yourself would suggest he has zero end product after watching his last 12 games or whatever you've claim to have seen to form that judgement

he deserves his opportunity after a good loan spell imho.

1. Start thread with a ridiculous statement based on a few pre-season friendlies.

2. Counter this with a few 'Give the lad a chance' replies.

3. Descend into name calling and petty arguments with both parties trying to take the moral high ground.


This may be a forum, but posts like this are not really open for discussion. They're statements that the original poster is going to defend - everyone else may as well not have the ability to reply, because it's not like there's going to be some sort of reasoned debate on the subject. Better to start a poll: -

I think that in general the forum manages that but this thread has become bogged down in petty squabbles.
