Yep, our final 3rd play and creating chances was lacking. Thats why we lost. Not the ref. Cant effect what the Ref does, so as long as we concentrate on our own game. We come out on top.

Usually we dont let this sort of thing effect us, but it clearly did last night. We will win the next game though, not really concerned there. We will be fired up.

Also its coming back from a break. We always take a few games to get up to speed again.
    *Except Michael, who died.

The atmosphere in the home leg is going to be amazing. It'll need to be as their away fans are going to make some ****ing racket.

I still think we can progress, but they are very good at getting over the line. We may rue not getting that away goal.

I knew as soon as they got that poxy goal it'd stay 1-0.

We did very well to pin them in their own half most of the game, even though we lacked spark in the final third.

Let's face it, we have these kind of away Euro performances in our locker....we regularly lose in the group stages away because we look toothless up front. I have no idea why. But we will turn up at Anfield and batter them for 95 mins - let's see how brilliantly they defend then.

We've lost 7 of our last 11 away games in the CL.

I get that the ref was a moron who would fall for "where's you're nose gone", but why didn't we get any decisions? Ox was upended a few times, a couple of times at the edge of the box and he waved on, then gave them a free kick for nothing 10 seconds later.

I guess I'm a bit disappointed that they had a clear game plan - play with mental speed and aggression for the first 10 mins to snatch an early goal and seize the initiative in the tie - and it worked. We looked a bit edgy and rattled early doors. It's almost like we're not used to being put under such pressure...

They scabbed a goal, they didn't plan it. They started like a cl level team playing a home leg of a knock out round game. The idea that it was a tactical masterstroke is nonsense.

Probably all been mentioned but I haven't read the thread ....so many decisions had me screaming at the telly. The foul he gave against Mo....

....utter piss take. When he failed to bring the play back for the handball, what the ****? And stopping the game when we had the ball and one of their lads went down feigning an injury. **** off. One of the worst refereeing displays I've seen for ages.

Yeah, but is it even worth the club complaining about it.

Europe has always been a bit of a Russian Roulette when it comes to refs. They are not usually as bad as last night though, i was kind of expecting him to send someone off at one point.

Those defates weren't all caused by dodgy refs and scabbed goals. We need to look at oursleves a bit here. But again, if we beat them 4-0 at Anfield there is no damage done. But our Euro away form needs to improve.

Agreed, if one looks at form (as said above), we have lost 7 of past 11 away games. This result wasn't against all the odds, it was very much an expected outcome regardless of the opposition. If anything, it was s **** master plan considering they only scored one goal.

Trent, Fabinho, Salah were absolutely woeful. Not something you associate with potential or actual Balon D'Or nominees. Mane and Wijnaldum were anonymous or naive, again not something you associate with them. European away nights do this to us for some reason. Atletico certainly didn't make the most of it, which they will rue.

Aye, the cunt needed bitch slapping for an hour to instil some semblance of sense into him.
                              3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I'm disappointed to be honest. It's another away game in Europe in which we have underperformed. I do think as fans some of us have been guilty of underestimating Atletico (particularly when playing in their back yard). They really are the masters of the dark arts. So well drilled and defensively organised. I can't stand all the rolling over from the slightest of touches though. They will do exactly the same at Anfield so a strong ref is imperative.

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but I did wonder whether the midfield trio we went with was the best option considering how we knew Atletico would set up - low block. I thought someone that could carry the ball and create space like a Keita/Oxlade-Chamberlain would have been ideal. We lacked creativity with the midfield we went with and they found it very easy to deal with our attacks. It's not something we are used to seeing.

I fully expect us to overwhelm them and keep them pinned in at Anfield. It'll be a different midfield and if I'm being totally honest as much as I would like Keita or Oxlade-Chamberlain to start, I wouldn't be surprised to see Lallana starting. A case can definitely made for him to get the nod.

Overall I think we will go through but it's not going to be a walk in the park imo.
