An Atlanta vs Lyon final beckons

No.6 still fresh in the memory and we get August to prepare for next season.
      No chance.

I'd much rather we were in it.

Would be favourites to lift number seven.

League and European cup winners. Not done that since 84

It’s a truncated competition this year. It’s Champions League Lite.

We’ll benefit next season from not playing into August and not having next to no pre season.

just getting into the swing of the football and it is cruelly being taken away from us in 2 weeks.

I think City will be fine playing into late August, they had 100 days off and they'll get another 2 weeks before CL kicks back in. They are heavily rotating and if anything I think they could have a flying start next season from being competitive rather than preseason mode. Hope we avoid playing them in the first few games of the season.

I can guarantee that if we were still in the Champions League, none of us would be complaining about it. Nor contemplating the positives of not being in it. Nor any potential devaluation of the sporting achievement because its Champions League lite.

I'm personally still pissed off that we've been knocked out. There are no positives to that which I can see.
            Oh I don't know.

Klopp himself has spoken of the positives and how he doesn’t envy City managing it and an already shortened pre season.

              But there we go.

Of course he is. I wouldn't expect any different.

And if we were in it, he'd be totally hyped.

                But there we go.

Come on man, you’re smarter than that- you really think Klopp is happy that he’s not in the champions league?

I’m gutted we’re not still in, but **** happens- we can’t be in the final every year! Next year, we go again!
                  I don't tip

Nope, I'd already said pre Atletico I'd lost a lot of the buzz for it. It's great for you if neutral venues with no supporters float ya boat but I think it's ****.

It's great for me if winning European Cups floats my boat.

The rest is secondary, to me.
                      Oh I don't know.

I wouldn't go so far as happy, but under the circumstances I think he sees it as a blessing in disguise, yes.

We know that Klopp hates hectic fixture schedules and how much he values pre season (and mid season) training.

Of course a hectic fixture schedule is a headache, but in terms of champions league football, it’s a good headache to have.

Is your reasoning that it’s a blessing that we don’t win it this year, as it gives us a better chance to win it next year?? Or should we ONLY care about the league and nothing else?

I agree that the extra preseason time will be a silver lining, but give me #7 any day over that...

Yep. And the Club World Cup
                            Oh I don't know.

Not that not winning it is a blessing. I just think that effectively playing from the restart, into CL and almost straight into next season would be a massive load on our squad. Remember we didn’t have time to get back to full fitness before the restart. There’d be more risk of injury and fatigue problems next season if we were having to play through like that. Not just us, that goes for the teams who will actually be doing it too.

I think we’ll benefit longer term from having (just about) enough time to get pre season training in. It’s all about next season next now for me. I want to see us go on all fronts again. I think we’ve a much better chance of that this way than if we had to carry on in this season’s CL.

Being in the CL would be at most an extra 3 games, before the start of next season.

If we were in the CL still, think Klopp would manage these last few games differently. We won the league in record time- I imagine that we’d be seeing a lot more of the likes of Elliott, Jones, neco, etc etc right now, and the main men would be getting enough rest before those 3 CL games which would pretty much be the start of next season...

Anyway, lots of IFs and BUTs, lets just win it next year again...
