That sounds reasonable. How you frame it depends on your attitude to our overall approach to transfers at the moment. Either ‘testing the flexibility of certain players’ or ‘revealing our threadbare squad’. I guess I was more interested in the Echo choosing the latter narrative. I suspect patience with our strategy will wear thin if we don’t have a good start (even if there is good financial reasoning behind it).

I think that the CB issue is one that needs to be addressed one way or another. Other than Koumetio who has only been involved in a couple of preseason games, Fabinho was the only other CB option that we had, and the one that made most sense. I suspect that he is going to be our option there for the season when Matip and/or Gomez are injured, obviously we lose him from midfield but that is the one area where we have a lot of options at the moment.
In terms of the game and giving people experience I would have liked to have seen Brewster given 20mins or so, especially if we had him in mind as a penalty taker, and given that he has had a decent scoring record in the 2 preseason games. Since returning from lockdown our forwards have been lacking some of the clinical finishing that has made them so effective in the last 2 or 3 years, that continued yesterday. Mane had a couple of chances and you would normally expect him to put at least one of them away the others still looked rusty to me Minamino aside, that was quite an alert, sharp finish. Hopefully the sharpness will be back in a couple of weeks for the league season, the problem is we don't really have too many goals elsewhere in the team. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Fab CB, Thiago DM.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think Liverpool's play has evolved - with the helpof acquisitions - over the summer months the last few years. I see less chance to have done that this summer, unless Taki and Curtis herald a move towards the use of a diamond front four or there will be a lot more goal threat from the midfield (Nabby and Ox).
There were times last season where we virtually played a back three and I can imagine looking for more penetrative passing rather than long balls to forwards from those players

We'd won 3 out of the last 4 going into this one.Originally posted by nineteen View Posti'm bothered that they didn't win. i think of it in terms of developing a winning culture and a formidable reputation. we're not there yet - we lose more than we win in these one-off finals and opponents don't fear us..

It was annoying to not bare our real teeth, despite the main team being on show. But you can clearly see the lack of sharpness in most of our players (Gomez, VvD, Salah, Mane) due to the double training loads they often go through pre season. Klopp is clearly not going to compromise his tried and tested methods for an early friendly trophy.Originally posted by nineteen View Posti'm bothered that they didn't win. i think of it in terms of developing a winning culture and a formidable reputation. we're not there yet - we lose more than we win in these one-off finals and opponents don't fear us.
Hell even Milner looked tired and that's saying something!!
Saying that I must admit I had a dream last night that we were 2-0 down against Leeds before half time.
One tit for another.
