My view is we'll sell Phillips and Matip in the summer, and go with VVD, Gomez, new CB and Davies as the 4, but I'd be amazed if any newbies play a game in the next week or two.

Watched Brighton last night. I'd be amazed if we don't beat them 3/4-0. Even a chance for a set-piece goal here.

I was wondering the same about Matip, presumably if we sign a potential first team CB Matip is the one to make way (I think Davies is viewed as 4th choice when everyone is available). If such a player comes in I could see them playing in a few weeks (after City and potentially Leicester games) alongside Henderson, but Davies I am alot less sure about.

Matip and gomez are always a doubt.

From next year I think we'll keep Nat as our main bench defender, send williams out on loan, Davies will get some minutes in cup games etc.
If we buy a certain 1st team starter (Duje Caleta-Car or Sven Botman) then maybe matip gives way?

I'm not meaning to be negative about him, but I think the reality of Davies situation is that when VVD, Gomez and Matip/new CB is available, he is behind them all in the pecking order as of now, maybe that changes as he develops. I suspect that he knows that.

Short term I don't see us throwing him or someone else straight into the side particularly with games such as City on the horizon at least without someone like Henderson 'babysitting' them through it. Most players coming into our side don't play straight away (although current circumstances are somewhat different). For someone like Davies this is a massive change and might take him a bit of time to get his head around it.

I agree that if Hendo and Phillips work again against Brighton then it would be daft to change this before this weekend's big test

As far as I'm concerned VVD is the only CB at LFC that is a banker to stay. Matip should be sold, he's a quality CB but he cannot handle the premier league. Philips and Williams aren't good enough for premier league champions & Gomez has had too many big injuries for one so young and is so inconsistent. Preston lad in and another lad in & imo we will go for big CB targets in the summer.

I think if we bring in Kabak, I think if he settles alongside VVD and Gomez gives us a good option with some competition for places, Davies is the 4th choice and Fabinho is the fall back option, is a good set for a few years. Matip and Phillips I think will be sold in the summer, Williams, van den Berg and Koumetio aren't good enough at the moment but are all 18 or younger and need time to develop, loan moves for experience would be sensible for those guys.

agree on the outgoings and loan moves, smart to loan to bump up fees.

We have to see if Virgil comes back the same player & what state Gomez is in. I know nothing of Davies or Kebab but it will be a relief to get bodies in an what's more being able to bolster that midfield with Hendo or Fab.
