Dear Lord. Even if he only played 10 games a season (which is practically a guaranteed minimum even as 4th choice), we’d be able to sell him on for at least 3 times that amount.

Christ, the purse strings are oppressively tight.

Not sure how psyched he would be to turn up and be at best 5th choice either tho, Kabak has to also want the move.

If he didn’t want it than that’s a different matter, but he gave the impression he was desperate to make it permanent.

Bar maybe Konate, he’d arguably be starting the season as well placed as anyone for a starting berth, given everyone’s respective positions on the road back to full fitness.

Aren’t we almost on our quota of foreign players and can only have 1 or 2 more foreign players in the squad,so possibly we have more important signings lined up.
          who's arsed?

            6th choice...

5th choice at worst, and even that’s assuming that Gomez has made a miraculous, instant recovery with no drop off in ability and Matip also being fit at any given time.

Given those practicalities, Kabak would have a very real chance of being 3rd choice across much of the season. And our 3rd choice CBs tend to get a significant amount of starts.

Yes, we are allowed 17 non homegrown players, counting everyone in the squad we have:
                Alisson, Adrian, Karius
                VVD, Konate, Tsimikas, Robertson, Matip
                Fabinho, Thiago, Keita, Grujic, Shaqiri
Firmino, Mane, Salah, Minamino, Jota, Origi

Which is 19, if you assume Karius and Grujic will be sold or if they are still here won't be registered, which still leaves us at capacity so we would need to move someone else on for every non homegrown player we bring in with Origi, Shaqiri and Minamino looking like the most likely...

So we need to sell before we can buy yeah, or buy & not register those that we want to move on?

Robertson doesn't count as homegrown as his development prior to age of 21 was in Scotland which is a seperate FA

Edit: Robertson spent a year at Hull at age 21 but you need 3 years before the end of the season in which you turn 21 to qualify as homegrown, he only has 1 which is why he doesn't count.

Yep I agree. Shaq’s stock is high after a good Euros but he’s the one I’d prefer to keep out of those three.

What makes you think he would be ahead of Phillips or Williams? I dont think Kabak is better than either, and the clincher is they wont cost us additional money to sign and they are both homegrown.

Bottom line is I dont think Kabak is actually that good, and even at that price does not represent value. There is no way he would get a game over Phillips, and that put him 6th choice at best. Williams had a very solid run in and would be unlucky if not chosen ahead of Kabak. So maybe 7th choice. Not sure any player would willingly move somewhere knowing those odds.
