Premier League preparing measures to stop threat of breakaway leagues

As well as supporting the FA in a push for legislation the Premier League said it would itself implement further rules and regulations to protect the “principles of the Premier League and open competition”. Furthermore it would implement “a new Owners’ Charter that all club owners will be required to sign up to committing them to the core principles of the Premier League”.

Replace one power grab with another. “The core principles of the Premier League” **** that.

I think it would have to be FIFA unfortunately because as we saw with even as something as straightforward as the transfer window end time, if one league or nation does something, there's no guarantee the others will and said nation is then left at a comparative disadvantage.

So it needs a global solution but then you have the difficulties that come with different national laws around employment in all of these jurisdictions.

That's possibly one reason why it's not as easy a case as the NFL.

Football today is a self-fulfilling prophecy: different from any other business as it’s classed as ‘hearts and minds’ - the club is ‘supposed to’ have a duty of care to their fans when marketing to them and likewise, authorities like FIFA are supposed to be task masters and uphold decency.

The problem is neither of these is true, hence the average joe is being increasingly priced out of the game while players, clubs, global organisations and broadcasters receive an increasingly larger percentage of the profits.

This drives up costs further with player wages escalating, TV rights extortionate, ticket price rises and so on... it’s an endless upwards spiral of prices everywhere.

The game needs a reset. That’s going to be almost impossible because of where it’s at and how much money everyone receives...

I do think the bubble is going to burst though to be honest. The ITV digital fiasco was as a result of getting market research totally wrong. The product they were trying to push was never going to sustain.

The same will / could be the case with the premier league in my view. The fact that BT sport are looking to pull out because they can't make it work is a sign. I genuinely think that the "product" of Premier League and Champions League has peaked in popularity. At least in this part of the world. It is likely that globally it still has a way to go..... but the likes of UEFA and FIFA have made their competitions less attractive / interesting by tweaking and tweaking. The Nations Leauge.......what a ****e competition........the 48 team world cup.......just means that the first round of matches are pretty ****e.

Go to a game and the average age of a fan is getting older and older every year. I am just not too sure if the next generation of fan is going to be as engaged as previous generations.

The only way BT could have made it work is, if like Sky originally, they had a complete monopoloy on PL and CL, but they didn't so the fans were not willing to shell money on Sky for the PL and BT for the CL. I don't think it means it has peaked in popularity, I think it is purely one step too far for most fans.

One of the reasons for this is we've all been season ticket holders since we were kids or young adults. I'm 45 and got my first season ticket when I was 9. I can't give it up as if I do I'll never see it again.

The club really do have to think on getting some local younger fans into the ground.

I'm really feeling the fatigue of it all at the minute.

Any whispers on a rearranged date. I'm struggling to see where it will fit in...maybe the 14th but that's only 2 days before we face West Brom

                Liverpool fixture dates 8th, 16th, 19th, 23rd
                Man U fixture dates 6th, 9th, 12th, 19th, 23rd
Oh triffic......so while you're up the road jollying it up, it's touch your toes time for Rodney

I’d like to hope that they will pick a date that suits us and let United deal with their own inconveniences. When we were in the World Cup we had to play 2 games within 24 hours in 2 different continents!

I’m not saying they should suffer because it was their fans, but because of their lack of security. It’s each clubs responsibility to provide a suitable and safe ground for the game to be played. Honestly I think there’s a strong argument for them having to just forfeit the points.
                    I don't tip

West Brom will definitely move, but where did you see those dates confirmed?

I've seen a few different options discussed.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

not confirmed, but unless they give the points (they won't) then that is the only possibility; plus too many journo's have been briefed that these are the likely dates for it to be anything else.

Saw posted elsewhere that the MUST are telling their members to keep the 15th/16th free for more 'protest action'; they're saying they may not be able to get into the ground, but they can block all the routes to the match itself. With any luck it will be another postponement and the points to us by default...be nice if they were the points that gave us CL football

It’s just a load of pissed up dickheads excited as they managed to break into the ground. There is no agenda. There is no cohesive point being made.
