The elephant in the room with both Real Madrid on both TAA and seemingly Konate is that a club such as Madrid aren't allowed to talk to a player under contract at another club unless they're in the last 6 months or so of their contract. Clearly they spoke to TAA before that, and if they are looking at a move for Konate the same is true, should the club or UEFA not be doing something? Of course they aren't thr only ones doings stuff, we got our wrists slapped with our first approach for VVD, but at least Southampton got their money...
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

There’s a difference between what most clubs do which is “before we ask your club and agree a fee are you interested in coming to us or are we wasting our time?” and what Madrid do which is “you’re worth £100m but if you run down your contract and sign for us on a free we’ll split it with you 50-50?”
      Never knowingly optimistic

Exactly, there has to be some sort of clamping down, or just be done with transfer fees altogether and trade players like the NBA. UEFA and FIFA can full well tighten the rules regarding this, I don't buy it that there is nothing to be done.
        * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Surely the player can refuse and force Madrid to pay up? Oh hang on, we're talking about poor footballers aren't we with a short career

Definitely sympathise with the above comments - what Madrid seem to be doing shames them. Just for my education though - the 'cant talk to a player under contract' thing - does that extend to their agent? It isn't really beyond the wit of most to see that a club would just ask the agent about interest and the agent relay the answer.

Anyway, UEFA won't stamp on it, because it's Madrid.

Just on TAA - under this scenario you can see why many LFC fans were furious about the situation, which most of the press seem to have bypassed. If the implication is true, then we've basically subsidised RM's transfer spending to the tune of Frimpong minus TAA. If the player had a part in that, we've every right to be furious with him. RM are a European rival - imagine if the same had happened in a transfer to City?

As for Ibra - I don't see him as one of the top 5 CHs in the world. He's too accident prone - generally because he often loses out in battles and resorts to pushing. He's an absolute unit, so that shouldn't be happening - but I never see him excelling without VvD around - he's not a leader. If he wants to go - fine - let's get a fee for him. He won't replace VvD as our no.1 CH anyway.

            Really?

Clubs talk to players all the time through intermediaries. It's been happening forever. Why would you bother bidding for a player that can't be arsed living anywhere near the club. Players are often tapped up on international duty, plenty of players have went public about on the likes of the overlap.

VVD is a force multiplier. I dread the day he leaves. He was like a player in Football Manager that you edit to have

                Heading 20
                Pace 20
                Acceleration 20
                Tackling 20
                Jumping 20
                Fitness 20
                Stamina 20
                Positioning 20
                Off the Ball 20
                Leadership 20
                Teamwork 20
                Anticipation 20
                Composure 30
                Passing 19

Konate does look fantastic alongside him, but only looks half as good when VVD was missing.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

I get that, but I mean legally what are they allowed to do

From the Beeb gossip page so probably BS

Chelsea have lodged a £43m offer for 26-year-old Liverpool and France centre-back Ibrahima Konate. (Defensa Central - in Spanish)
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Absolutely shocking performance, channeled his inner Trent defending. This isn’t just a one off either, he was questionable at times towards the backend of last season too. I certainly wouldn’t be rushing to give him a mega contract. Hopefully we can get Guehi in over the weekend.

Was the worst I've ever seen him play

VvD was a bit better after his Palace fiasco. Maybe Konate needed to get this Bournemouth fiasco out of his system.
                            One tit for another.

Didn't see the whole game but carragher hammered him for the second goal but it was 4 on 2 and he was trying to block the shot and two players making runs on his right. That one you can't say he defended badly for it.

I mean he could have perhaps tackled the player in possession. I understand what you're saying but if you don't make an action you end up allowing the attacker to do what they want. IMO and I said it twice before the shot went in he should have made the tackle, he had plenty of opportunity.
